About the job

Requirements
  • Strong Python backend skills, including building and maintaining production APIs at real scale.
  • Proven experience with distributed systems and comfort with messaging systems such as RabbitMQ and Kafka, and RPC methods such as gRPC, protobuf, and tRPC.
  • Fluency with relational databases, including schema design, query optimization, and production migrations.
  • Ability to own a feature end-to-end, from design document through backend API, database migration, feature-flag rollout, and monitoring.
  • Strong debugging instincts and a calm, systematic approach to triaging production incidents, with a bias toward durable fixes.
  • Comfort working in small teams with high ownership and lightweight process.
Responsibilities
  • Build and maintain backend Python APIs powering reservation, bidding, billing, and usage surfaces, including usage visualization and the billing platform.
  • Write and maintain database migrations, design relational schemas for complex multi-entity models such as orders, allocations, grants, and quotas, and optimize queries for performance.
  • Own features end-to-end, from design document through backend API, database migration, feature-flag rollout, and monitoring.
  • Design and implement orchestration primitives for flexible reservations, including pause and return credits, reservation extensions, capacity algorithm updates, and the auction model connecting spot and reserved capacity.
  • Contribute to operational maturity through quota systems, financial controls, fraud prevention, and inventory management automation, enabling supply sources to scale without headcount increasing linearly.
  • Contribute to supply-side integrations by bringing GCP, Nebius, and OCI resources under Mithril management through the Mithril API.
  • Build tooling that gives operators visibility into managed capacity and surfaces supply constraints early.
  • Build consumption tooling to help developers make better decisions, including reservation calculators, bid modeling, cost dashboards, and CLI extensions.
  • Work across the client frontend to ship customer-facing features, including usage graphs, billing views, and reservation management interfaces.
  • Participate in on-call rotations, triage production incidents, and contribute to operational runbooks and automation that reduce toil over time.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with marketplace and billing systems, especially variable-usage, auction-based, or complex reservation models.
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes, AWS infrastructure, or cloud provider APIs such as GCP, OCI, and Nebius.
  • Familiarity with Linux containers and container orchestration, including Docker Swarm and Nomad.
  • Comfort working across the stack with a Python backend and TypeScript/React frontend.
  • Experience with developer tools or command-line interfaces; experience with SkyPilot or similar frameworks is a bonus.
  • Proficiency with infrastructure as code, including Terraform and Kustomize, or observability tooling such as Grafana and Prometheus.
  • Background in real-time systems, including server-sent events, WebSockets, or event-driven architectures.
  • Prior experience at a startup, shipping across domains while handling multiple responsibilities.

About the company

Mithril builds an AI omnicloud platform that aggregates GPUs, CPUs, and storage from multiple cloud providers into a single virtual pool for distributed AI compute. It offers a unified interface (REST API, CLI, Python SDKs) to run workloads across clouds with real-time pricing and flexible purchasing options (market rate, spot bids, flexible reservations). A batch inference service handles large AI tasks with token-based pricing and automates orchestration, scaling, and reliability to improve price-per-task. The platform differentiates itself by spanning multiple providers to create a transparent, real-time AI compute market, emphasizing visibility, utilization, and easy multi-cloud deployment to make AI infrastructure more accessible for researchers, startups, and enterprises.

Foundry Raises $80 Million In Seed And Series A Funding To Build A New Breed Of Public Cloud

PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Today, Foundry, a new breed of public cloud for AI/ML workloads, announced $80M in seed and Series A funding to orchestrate the world’s compute capacity, rendering it universally accessible and useful. The round was co-led by Sequoia Capital and Lightspeed Venture Partners, with participation from Redpoint, Microsoft Ventures (M12), Conviction, NEA, and other leading technical and commercial minds from the industry. Foundry is building to ensure humanity maximizes the utility of the computing power we already have, and will produce. Shaun Maguire, partner at Sequoia Capital, on why he led the seed and co-led the Series A rounds of Foundry: “Building AI infrastructure is uniquely relevant right now and highly complex to build, requiring profound technical expertise in areas traditionally seen as separate, like; deep learning, distributed systems, the economics of energy, finance, as well as market theory and mechanism design. What Jared and the team at Foundry are building is at the forefront of innovation in the world of public clouds for AI/ML workloads and will deeply influence the ecosystem for years to come.". Founded by alumni from DeepMind’s core Deep Learning Team and Stanford’s CS PhD program (a group led by Databricks co-founder Matei Zaharia), Foundry tackles the core economic and technical challenges in AI and deep learning
