Girls Who Code is a nonprofit that closes the gender gap in technology by giving teenage girls free access to coding education through summer camps, after-school clubs, and college programs. Their programs run in schools and community settings and are funded by partnerships with corporations and foundations, allowing them to offer activities at no cost to participants. The programs work by connecting girls with mentors and peers in a collaborative learning environment, plus providing teachers with ready-made lesson plans and activities to extend coding topics beyond the club. The organization differentiates itself through a targeted focus on girls, its large network of more than 8,500 programs worldwide, and its sponsorship-driven model that funds free access and broader outreach (for example, brand partnerships and media campaigns). Its ultimate goal is to build the world’s largest pipeline of future female engineers and reshape the image of what a programmer looks like and does.
