Responsibilities
  • Provide assigned residents with routine daily nursing care and services in accordance with each resident's assessment and care plan under the direction of a Registered or Licensed Nurse Manager or designee.
  • Support the resident admission, transfer, and discharge processes.
  • Assist elders with activities of daily living, including dental care, feeding, bathing, dressing and undressing, nail care, hair care, and shaving according to expressed preference.
  • Lift, turn, move, position, and transport residents into and out of beds, chairs, bathtubs, wheelchairs, and lifts.
  • Perform restorative and rehabilitative procedures as instructed, provide daily range-of-motion exercises, and record data as instructed.
  • Answer resident calls promptly.
  • Use required safety equipment and supplies when lifting or moving residents in accordance with the plan of care.
  • Report changes in a resident's condition to the supervisor or designee as soon as practical.
  • Maintain the confidentiality and privacy of resident care information.
  • Enter information and documentation accurately in CareTracker in accordance with company policy, practice, and standards.
  • Follow established end-of-life procedures.
  • Attend scheduled training, in-service training, mandatory annual in-service training, and required educational classes.
  • Report occupational exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and hazardous chemicals in accordance with community policies and procedures.
  • Provide customer service, promote teamwork and direct communication, and handle confidential information discreetly and sensitively.
  • Identify problems and seek solutions, promote patient and family satisfaction, and participate in departmental efforts to monitor and report customer service.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

(ABC 4) - At a recent golf fundraiser near Grand Rapids, local nonprofit Brave the Shave awarded checks to two of their partners for helping provide support for child patients: Corewell Health Helen DeVos Children's Hospital and Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation. Resources that Brave the Shave offers to patients and their families include funding for travel expenses, mortgages, utilities and more. "We help families and pay for things that insurance doesn't," said Pat Schrager, founder of Brave the Shave. Through its partnerships with Corewell Health Helen DeVos Children's Hospital and Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation, Brave the Shave helps take part of the financial burden away from patients and their families. "(Brave the Shave) provides our patients and their families with financial relief during their cancer journey," said Melissa Wittlinger, pediatric cancer and blood disorders coordinator with Corewell Health. To celebrate these partnerships, Brave the Shave awarded $25,000 to Mary Free Bed and $40,000 to Corewell Health Helen DeVos Children's Hospital.

(ABC 4) - After a community open house on May 7, Mary Free Bed celebrated the opening of its fifth outpatient location in the Grand Rapids area. This new location at 4020 East Beltline Avenue NE, called Mary Free Bed East Beltline Northeast, offers comprehensive rehabilitation and outpatient services, including physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, orthotics, prosthetics and bionics. "Expanding into the northeast side of Grand Rapids allows us to meet people where they are," said Megan Jabin, site lead for Mary Free Bed East Beltline Northeast, in a statement. "We know how important convenience is during recovery. This location makes it easier for patients to stay consistent with care while receiving the same clinical excellence Mary Free Bed is known for."
