Requirements
  • Completion of a Secondary School Diploma; alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • Safe Food Handling Certification.
  • A valid driver's license and a clean driver's abstract.
  • A minimum of two years of prior related experience.
  • Ability to maintain information in confidence and exercise good judgment.
  • Ability to work independently and participate as an active and responsible team member in a cooperative team environment.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, listening skills, interpersonal skills, integrity, adaptability, organizational skills, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully, including The Salvation Army Abuse Registry screening, and provide an original copy of a background check.
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding of and support for The Salvation Army's mission and purpose in Canada as they relate to the position responsibilities.
  • Ability and willingness to provide a valid Safe Food Handlers Certification.
  • Ability to lift or move up to 80 pounds regularly and to reach, bend, stoop frequently, and stand for long periods.
Responsibilities
  • Assist with food recovery by sorting and distributing food donations.
  • Assist with janitorial duties, including dusting, sweeping, washing floors, and cleaning bathrooms.
  • Drive to pick up food and drop off recycling, electronics, or other items when volunteers are unavailable.
  • Receive and sort donations for Community and Family Services or the Thrift Store.
  • Greet and aid donors and guests by providing information about services or directing them to appropriate assistance.
  • Monitor equipment for repairs and log refrigerator temperatures.
  • Build relationships with guests and donors by making connections and monitoring the well-being of people in the building.
  • Provide program support to the Community and Family Services Supervisor, Thrift Store Manager, volunteers, and other staff.
  • Assist with inventory tracking.
  • Clean up after food share activities and sanitize dishes, produce bins, and pickup bins.
  • Prepare and maintain the coffee station, including keeping it clean.
  • Communicate with guests and direct them to services offered by The Salvation Army or within the community.
  • Help ensure client and volunteer safety by maintaining cleanliness and following health and safety standards.
  • Work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and The Salvation Army's health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Assist with food bank materials management, including donations, product flow, and distribution.
  • Handle gift cards valued up to $100.
  • Perform other position-related duties.
