Position Overview

The Department of Political Science at The Ohio State University (https://polisci.osu.edu/) invites applications for the Carter Phillips and Sue Henry Endowed Position in Law and Courts at the rank of Professor or Associate Professor, to begin in August 2027.

We seek a scholar whose research on law and courts has made significant contributions to the field. The focus could include, but is not limited to, judicial development, emergence/consolidation of the rule of law, American legal institutions, courts and politics, and/or political development of state-judiciary relations. The successful candidate will be positioned to provide intellectual leadership through an innovative and impactful research agenda and should demonstrate methodological sophistication appropriate to their research, a commitment to engaging broad theoretical questions in the study of law and courts, and excellence in teaching and mentoring.

Responsibilities include maintaining a highly visible program of research and teaching and advising students at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. The position offers substantial opportunities for collaboration across Ohio State's nationally recognized strengths in law, social science, methodology, and data analytics. Exceptional candidates whose research and teaching interests align with existing strengths at Ohio State may have opportunities for affiliation or collaborative engagement with the Moritz College of Law and other interdisciplinary centers and institutes across the university. Required: Candidates must have a PhD in Political Science or a related discipline, a substantial record of publications and work in progress, and should provide evidence of accomplishments in teaching and/or mentoring.
