Requirements
  • Experience with the WIC Program, multicultural populations, and the use of interpreters is required.
  • Must maintain current Registered Dietitian and Certified Dietitian credentials, as applicable, for registered dietitians.
  • The experience should demonstrate managerial and organizational skills and an interest in nutrition services and nutrition education.
  • A minimum of three years of direct experience as a WIC supervisor may substitute for the educational requirement with the required approvals.
  • The employee must own or have access to an insured vehicle for site visits and duties at various Sea Mar locations.
  • The employee must sign a permanent confidentiality oath covering patient-related information.
  • A Washington State Patrol background check is required.
  • An annual tuberculosis test is required.
  • Basic Life Support cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification must be obtained within 90 days of hire and maintained throughout employment.
  • Pre-hire and annual employee health screening is required.
  • An annual influenza vaccine is required, subject to approved medical or religious exemptions.
  • The employee must be able to lift 35 pounds above four feet without assistance and sit at a computer terminal or desk for extended periods.
  • The employee must possess the ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations; write reports, business correspondence, policy and procedure manuals, and special reports; and present information to managers, staff, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • The employee must be able to perform mathematical calculations involving whole numbers, common fractions, decimals, rates, ratios, and percentages and interpret bar graphs.
  • The employee must be able to solve practical problems, interpret written, oral, diagrammatic, and scheduled instructions, and deal with varied concrete situations.
  • The employee must have skills in diplomacy, supervision, delegation, teaching, problem solving, and administrative program planning.
  • The employee must maintain patience and sensitivity for people with problems and demonstrate awareness of community resources.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate the WIC Program, including reporting, data gathering, program-file and record maintenance, monthly statistics, and preparation of the Nutritional Education Plan, Breastfeeding Grant, and annual WIC Expenditures Report.
  • Plan and provide nutrition consultations, in-service training, and continuing education opportunities for Nutrition Department and Sea Mar staff.
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate nutrition services provided by the WIC/Nutrition Department; determine nutrition needs and problems of the WIC target population; and implement policies, standards, and services to meet client needs.
  • Coordinate WIC/Nutrition services with the MSS Program.
  • Participate in Quality Improvement, Joint Commission, and other selected committees to monitor and improve the functioning of Sea Mar Community Health Centers.
  • Supervise, direct, schedule, and train WIC Nutritionists, Nutrition Assistants, and WIC Clerks.
  • Conduct regular staff meetings and act as liaison for nutrition staff with management, Sea Mar staff, and state nutrition staff.
  • Participate in county, state, and local nutritionists' meetings as needed and advocate for the Nutrition Department and other Sea Mar departments or programs.
  • Report and summarize progress of activities and prepare periodic and special reports as requested.
  • Conduct community outreach activities and maintain communication with referral agencies.
  • Provide age-appropriate nutrition care and apply knowledge of growth and development across the life span.
  • Identify and categorize patients' specific grouping needs, including infants, children, and women.
  • Provide nutrition assessment and counseling to high-risk clientele and develop nutrition care plans as needed.
  • Provide consultation and supervision for WIC staff.
  • Serve as a preceptor for Sea Mar Dietetic Interns, assist and evaluate interns in counseling and charting skills, and conduct occasional classes for interns.
  • Interview, select, orient, and train WIC staff; plan, assign, and direct work; appraise performance; conduct disciplinary processes; address complaints; and resolve problems.
Desired Qualifications
  • A degree in nutrition from an accredited college or university, an approved hospital dietetic internship or equivalent training and experience, and fulfillment of the American Dietetic Association's requirements as a Registered Dietitian.
  • Bilingual, bicultural Spanish/English ability.
