Requirements
  • Completion of a JRCERT-accredited school of radiologic sciences.
  • CT Technologists must be licensed by the Oregon Board of Medical Imaging and have an ARRT (CT) registry. Those without an ARRT (CT) registry must be ARRT (R), ARRT (N), or NMTCB certified, or ARRT (RT) registered upon hire with documentation of CT clinical experience requirements, and must receive CT certification by the ARRT within 6 months of hire.
  • A BLS certificate is required within 30 days of hire or before independent practice, whichever comes first.
  • Demonstrate good judgment, decision-making, and communication skills.
  • Be proficient in IV/Angio-cath starts and administration of contrast media via power injection.
  • Demonstrate normal and abnormal cross-sectional anatomy and pathology through scan techniques, reconstructions, and 3D post-processing.
  • Demonstrate competency in complex CT imaging and the ability to adjust imaging parameters appropriately on a case-by-case basis.
Responsibilities
  • Operate multi-slice CT scanners to perform exams accurately and efficiently using appropriate equipment skills and knowledge.
  • Evaluate anatomy and related pathologies for presentation to the Radiologist.
  • Apply knowledge of CT physics and radiation safety.
  • Use responsible judgment in recognizing and reporting significant patient-care situations.
  • Prepare and instruct patients for diagnostic exams using age-appropriate communication.
  • Adjust scanning factors and patient positioning to eliminate or minimize artifacts caused by patient habitus, motion, implants, or monitoring equipment.
  • Follow the ALARA principle while optimizing exams to obtain the highest image quality with the lowest possible radiation dose.
  • Perform the full range of exams after completing technical competencies and stay current with new CT technology hardware and software upgrades.
  • Demonstrate normal and abnormal cross-sectional anatomy and pathology using scan techniques, reconstructions, and 3D post-processing.
  • Verify complete documentation of pertinent information for accurate and timely service.
  • Verify imaging orders and protocols in patients' electronic medical records.
  • Identify patients correctly in accordance with the Imaging Department Patient Identification Policy.
  • Label images completely and accurately with patient demographics, position, and other required documentation.
  • Complete scanning duties with correct data entry, billing, verification, and placement of images in PACS.
  • Prescreen patients for sensitivity and contraindications to contrast medications used during imaging exams.
  • Select appropriate contrast types and injection factors for each case.
  • Generate a CD or DVD of imaging exams as needed.
Desired Qualifications
  • Extensive emergency, trauma, and stroke imaging experience is preferred.
