Requirements
  • Graduate of a Medical Coding Program; two years of coding experience may be considered in lieu of the program, in addition to the required experience below.
  • Three years of related coding or review experience in a health care setting.
  • Experience with word processing, spreadsheets, and database software.
  • Experience with coding concepts including Current Procedural Terminology (CPT), International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-10-CM), and Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS).
  • Experience using Microsoft Office.
  • One of the following certifications is required: Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC), Certified Outpatient Coder (COC), or Certified Coding Specialist Physician-Based (CCS-P).
Responsibilities
  • Develop, conduct, and/or coordinate the coding quality review process.
  • Analyze coding errors and formulate advice and education.
  • Identify and advise staff on quality improvement opportunities.
  • Participate in individualized feedback for coding staff.
  • Summarize review results and identify trends for targeted educational opportunities.
  • Prepare summary reports of coding review results as requested.
Desired Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Bachelor's degree in a health-care-related field.
  • Graduation from a Health Information Technology program.
  • Five years of multi-specialty professional coding experience in an academic medical center.
  • Certified Professional Medical Auditor (CPMA), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA).
