Requirements
- A valid California credential in Physical Education with authorization in Adapted Education, or enrollment in a qualifying program with a passed California Basic Educational Skills Test and eligibility for a waiver from the Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
- Appropriate automobile insurance with limits allowing use of a personal vehicle for work, including at least $25,000/$50,000 liability coverage.
- A current background check through the Federal Bureau of Investigation and California Department of Justice.
- A current tuberculosis test.
- Ability to work in varied environments, including classrooms, clinics, and/or homes, with moderate to loud noise levels and varying physical demands.
- Ability to work with individuals exhibiting diverse behaviors and needs.
Responsibilities
- Maintain student records and communicate ongoing student progress to parents or guardians, general education teachers, school administration, district personnel, and other service professionals through progress reporting and Individualized Education Plans.
- Maintain ongoing compliance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.
- Create and instruct students using adapted physical education techniques to improve overall physical fitness, gross motor skills, and achievement in sports and games.
- Prepare lessons in accordance with Individualized Education Plans.
- Adapt instruction to meet the individual needs of all students, including age- and skill-level appropriateness.
- Provide positive feedback and build appreciation for physical education.
- Establish and maintain a safe, orderly, and effective environment.
- Manage physical education inventory and request or order equipment as needed.
