  • The ability to independently query, manipulate, and analyze large, complex datasets, with proficiency in SQL and data analysis tools or languages such as Python or R.
  • A deep understanding of applied statistics, experimental design including A/B testing, causal inference, and methods for measuring statistical significance and inferring long-term impact.
  • A strong quantitative background; a Master's or PhD in Computer Science, Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, Mathematics, or a related field is highly preferred.
  • The ability to engage deeply with engineers and data scientists on technical details of algorithms, system design, and data infrastructure.
  • The ability to communicate and collaborate across functions and influence technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • The ability to structure and break down complex problems into actionable components.
Responsibilities
  • Define and drive the product roadmap for Yelp's ads auction, bidding algorithms, pricing mechanisms, and budget pacing systems, aligning them with business objectives and competitive dynamics and identifying levers for optimization and innovation.
  • Partner with Engineering and Data Science to design, develop, and refine the auction-based ad selection system; translate advertiser goals, user experience, and monetization considerations into algorithmic requirements and prioritize initiatives based on data and expected impact.
  • Define and own the metrics framework for evaluating auction health, efficiency, and business impact; develop robust measurement for complex trade-offs and design and interpret large-scale A/B tests.
  • Conduct hands-on analysis of large-scale auction and advertising datasets using SQL and Python to identify optimization opportunities, validate hypotheses, understand performance drivers, and inform product decisions.
  • Lead the end-to-end product lifecycle for auction-related features and improvements, from ideation and requirements definition through launch and iteration.
  • Serve as the product leader for the auction domain, collaborating with Engineering, Data Science, Sales, Finance, and other Product teams, and communicate complex technical concepts and trade-offs to diverse audiences.
  • Improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the core ad marketplace to influence Yelp's revenue and advertiser success.

About the company

Yelp runs an online platform that helps people find and choose local businesses by collecting and displaying user reviews and ratings from readers. It covers restaurants, bars, salons, doctors and other services, and works as a local search and discovery service. Users search for categories, read reviews, compare options, and can make reservations or join waitlists for restaurants. Yelp makes money mainly from advertising to local businesses—enhanced profiles, sponsored listings, and targeted ads—and also collects transaction fees from its reservation system. The differences from competitors include a strong emphasis on peer-generated reviews and a broad local directory with integrated reservation features, giving businesses a way to reach nearby customers. The goal is to help people make informed local decisions and connect them with relevant service providers while generating revenue from advertising and reservation-related services.

Yelp COO sells 10,000 shares as stock falls 44% in three years amid Google, TikTok competition

Joseph R. Nachman, Chief Operating Officer of Yelp, sold 10,333 shares on 20 August 2026 at $23.60 per share. The transaction was executed to satisfy tax withholding requirements from vesting restricted stock units and does not reflect the executive's view on company valuation. Nachman retains 250,993 shares, representing 0.46% of outstanding shares. Yelp's stock has delivered a negative 38% total return over five years, compared to the S&P 500's 83% gain during the same period. The company posted just 1.4% revenue growth in its most recent quarter, down from over 20% historically. Increased competition from Google Maps, Apple Maps, and social media platforms has eroded Yelp's market position, reducing advertising clicks. The company is pivoting towards artificial intelligence integration, but net income has fallen from $150 million in 2025 to $127 million.

Yelp CEO sells $483K in shares as stock falls 24% over past year

Yelp CEO Jeremy Stoppelman sold 20,479 shares of common stock on 20 August 2026, valued at approximately $483,304, according to an SEC filing. The sale was not discretionary — shares were withheld by Yelp to cover tax liabilities from vesting restricted stock units. Following the transaction, Stoppelman retains direct ownership of roughly 918,000 shares, worth $21.68 million at the transaction date price of $23.60 per share. The sale occurred amid a 24% decline in Yelp's stock price over the previous year. Yelp operates a digital platform connecting consumers with local businesses across sectors including dining, retail, and healthcare. The company generates revenue through advertising solutions and has a market capitalisation of $1.3 billion.

Yelp's AI phone service now takes food orders and books tables via OpenTable

Yelp announced that its AI-powered phone service, Yelp Host, can now handle conversational food ordering for restaurants. The service connects directly to point-of-sale systems like Toast or Square to place orders and process transactions. The expanded service includes customisable voices and accents, support for 17 languages, and reporting tools for tracking metrics such as after-hours call volume. Yelp Host also integrates with OpenTable, allowing the AI to check availability and book tables without human intervention. The expansion comes as Yelp's traditional advertising revenue stagnates. Net revenue increased just 1% year over year to $361 million in Q1 2026, following 4% growth in 2025. Restaurant advertising dropped 11% last quarter as diners reduced discretionary spending.

Yelp licenses local reviews to OpenAI for ChatGPT integration

Yelp is licensing reviews, photos and business information to OpenAI, giving ChatGPT access to real-time local recommendation data, the company announced. ChatGPT will surface Yelp reviews, ratings, photos and business details in response to user queries, with Yelp's branding and links appearing when OpenAI uses its content. Yelp's "Request a Quote" feature will also be added, allowing ChatGPT users to contact local service providers directly. The companies declined to disclose financial terms of the deal, which does not prevent Yelp from making similar agreements with other AI companies. "If you want to answer local queries, you really need Yelp," said CEO Jeremy Stoppelman. Yelp already supplies data to Yahoo+ and Apple Maps, treating ChatGPT as another distribution platform rather than a competitor.

Yelp shares down 23% YTD as analysts see 24.6% upside potential amid AI growth

Yelp shares have declined 14% over the past month and 23% year-to-date, with total shareholder returns negative across one, three and five-year periods. The stock closed at $23.25, trading below both analyst price targets and an estimated intrinsic value of approximately $30.82, suggesting potential undervaluation of 24.6%. The company is developing new AI-driven revenue streams, including search API licensing that has generated a $10 million run-rate. However, the business faces headwinds from softer advertising demand and rising competition in search, which could pressure traffic and monetisation. Analysts highlight the tension between high-margin AI opportunities and competitive risks as investors assess whether the recent weakness represents a buying opportunity or reflects concerns about future growth.
