About the job
- A two- or three-year post-secondary qualification in civil engineering, public works, or an equivalent field, such as a BTS, DUT, or professional licence.
- Some prior inspection experience is required; internships and work-study placements count.
- Basic knowledge of materials strength and pathologies affecting concrete, steel, masonry, and wood.
- Proficiency with measurement tools and ability to work at height.
- Comfort writing reports and using office software, reporting software, and drawing software such as AutoCAD.
- Methodical attention to detail when identifying signs of deterioration.
- Ability to interpret collected data and draw relevant conclusions.
- Ability to organize inspection schedules and priorities independently.
- Ability to explain observations and recommendations orally and in writing.
- Organize site visits with the team and clients, including scheduling, equipment, and personal protective equipment.
- Check the availability and conformity of measurement equipment, such as cameras, crack gauges, and ground-penetrating radar.
- Conduct detailed inspections and IQOA visits to identify and characterize defects in structures.
- Perform visual surveys and non-destructive testing, and destructive tests when needed, including core sampling and pull-out tests.
- Identify structural pathologies such as cracks, corrosion, and deterioration of concrete or steel, and propose corrective measures.
- Analyze collected data to assess structure condition and detect anomalies.
- Write detailed reports and make maintenance or repair recommendations.
- Collect essential field data, check its accuracy, and contribute to the overall analysis of structures.
