Fortinet FortiSIEM RCE vulnerability gets public exploit that requires no login.

Fortinet FortiSIEM RCE vulnerability gets public exploit that requires no login. A public proof-of-concept exploit has been released for CVE-2026-106173, a critical vulnerability in Fortinet FortiSIEM that can let a remote attacker write files and run code without logging in. The flaw affects FortiSIEM 7.5.0. Fortinet released a fix in version 7.5.1, while version 7.6 is not affected, according to published reporting on the advisory. Fortinet disclosed the vulnerability on October 13, 2026, in its FortiGuard security advisory. Horizon3.ai later published technical research and a proof-of-concept on GitHub. The research shows how an unauthenticated client can reach a gRPC service on TCP port 27918 and abuse its SendQueryResult method to write attacker-controlled data to the FortiSIEM appliance. The gRPC service accepts query-result data and builds a file path using values supplied by the client. Horizon3.ai found that the service does not properly check the query ID before adding it to the path. By using directory-traversal sequences, an attacker can direct the file write outside the expected query-results folder. The service also adds its own text to the end of the filename. But Horizon3.ai found that a null byte in a crafted field can cause the operating system to treat the path as ending early. Fortinet FortiSIEM RCE vulnerability. This can let an attacker target an exact existing filename instead of being limited to the service's generated filename. The research says sending the specially formed request requires manually building the gRPC message because common tools and libraries restrict null bytes in headers. The file-write flaw can become remote code execution if an attacker overwrites a script that the appliance runs automatically. Horizon3.ai identified /opt/charting/redishb.sh, a script it says is run by a scheduled job, as a file of interest. The researchers also named /opt/phoenix/bin/phLicenseTool as a file administrators should inspect. The published proof-of-concept demonstrates the risk, but its release alone does not show that a particular FortiSIEM system has been compromised. Administrators should check whether their FortiSIEM appliances run version 7.5.0 and upgrade to 7.5.1 or later. FortiSIEM 7.6 is reported as not affected. If an immediate upgrade is not possible, restrict access to TCP port 27918 to trusted systems and keep it unreachable from the public internet. Horizon3.ai says it did not find application logs that clearly identify exploitation of this flaw. Teams investigating possible compromise should review file modification times and inspect the named scripts for unexpected changes. A mismatch with nearby system-file timestamps may warrant closer investigation. However, it is not proof of exploitation on its own. The issue adds to a history of FortiSIEM vulnerabilities reported by Horizon3.ai, including CVE-2024-23108 and CVE-2025-64155. Earlier flaws involved the phMonitor service, while CVE-2026-106173 involves a separate gRPC service. That difference matters for defenders because reviewing protections around one FortiSIEM service does not automatically secure another. Update defenses against new malware as soon as it appears. AI hacking attacks jump 89% as cybersecurity stocks split into platforms and point solutions

AI-powered hacking attacks jumped 89% last year, according to CrowdStrike's own threat report. The finding is pushing buyers to choose between one connected security platform and a pile of separate tools. CrowdStrike's Falcon Flex bundling programme has grown its contracted value past $2 billion, more than doubling in a year. Palo Alto Networks added about 220 "platformization" deals in a recent quarter, more than twice the pace of two years earlier. Fortinet is using its lead in network firewalls to cross-sell. SentinelOne, Cloudflare, and Zscaler make thinner platform cases. Okta remains a point solution focused on verifying logins. CrowdStrike and Palo Alto Networks are both down more than 13% from their October 6 record highs, amid reports that OpenAI may buy a cybersecurity startup.

Strengthening OT Security with the Fortinet AI-Enabled OT Security Platform.

Strengthening OT Security with the Fortinet AI-Enabled OT Security Platform. An integrated approach to protecting industrial operations with AI-enabled security and rugged connectivity Continued ransomware attacks on manufacturing and geopolitically motivated attacks on critical infrastructure are increasing pressure on operational technology (OT) security teams. Threat actors are also using artificial intelligence (AI) to support efforts to disrupt OT infrastructure. Historically, the specialized nature of OT devices and protocols created obstacles for attackers unfamiliar with industrial environments. AI can help lower those barriers, making it easier to research systems, identify potential weaknesses, and develop attacks. The stakes are high. Disruptions to OT environments can interrupt essential services and supply chains, reduce revenue, and threaten public safety. Many organizations must address these risks while working to close long-standing gaps in OT security funding and staffing. Some organizations are still establishing foundational cybersecurity practices, even as attackers' growing use of AI requires them to accelerate that work and adopt more advanced defenses. They must improve protection while continuing to address resource and security-maturity gaps. An integrated platform for OT Security. The Fortinet AI-Enabled OT Security Platform brings together capabilities to address current and emerging threats while helping organizations improve security efficiency. It supports foundational requirements, including OT visibility, segmentation, and secure remote access, as well as more advanced zero-trust controls and AI-enabled security operations. This approach helps organizations strengthen protection as their OT security practices mature. Capabilities range from identifying and mitigating risks from unpatched OT devices to supporting generative and agentic AI workflows for OT security operations, including Model Context Protocol (MCP) and Agent-to-Agent (A2A) integrations. Independently validated security. Fortinet continues to invest in both platform capabilities and independent validation of its security practices. Its Secure Product Development Lifecycle has achieved IEC 62443-4-1 Maturity Level 2 (ML2) certification. Fortinet has also achieved IEC 62443-4-2 Security Level 4 (SL4) certification, across the entire FortiOS familiy of operating system versions, the highest security level defined by the component security standard. These certifications address two distinct aspects of product security: the processes used to develop products and the technical security capabilities built into them. The FortiOS family certification covers FortiGate platforms, including FortiGate Rugged, providing organizations with independently validated security options for industrial environments. As organizations adopt IEC 62443 and comply with related regulatory and procurement requirements, these certifications provide greater assurance when evaluating security solutions. Fortinet continues to invest in certifications for its AI-Enabled OT Security Platform to meet the needs of manufacturing, transportation, maritime, and other industrial sectors. Expanded capabilities for industrial environments. FortiOS is central to the Fortinet AI-Enabled OT Security Platform. FortiOS 8.0 adds capabilities relevant to OT environments, including application control for MCP and A2A communications, controls for generative AI and sanctioned applications, and data loss prevention enhanced with optical character recognition. Additional capabilities include FortiAI Assist for debugging and configuration assistance, quantum-safe enhancements, OT protocol dissectors, and improvements to OT-specific dashboards. The Fortinet rugged portfolio includes 5G and dual 5G solutions with DIN-rail mounting for industrial environments. Recent additions further expand connectivity and security options for demanding industrial settings: * FortiGate Rugged 60G adds M12 connectors for high-vibration environments, including rolling stock applications, and 5G connectivity options. * FortiAP-222KL expands the rugged access point portfolio with Wi-Fi 7 and LoRaWAN support, along with hazardous-location certification. * FortiExtender Rugged WAN 50G adds high-speed, self-positioning 5G connectivity for harsh environments. * FortiAnalyzer expands OT reporting and analytics with an enhanced Asset Identity dashboard and additional configuration options. Together, these capabilities help organizations extend security and visibility across distributed industrial operations, including sites with specialized connectivity and environmental needs. Reducing risk for unpatched OT devices. Patching remains a major challenge in OT environments, where maintenance windows may be limited, and some devices may no longer receive updates. Organizations need ways to reduce exposure while maintaining operational availability. The FortiGuard OT Security Service is continually updated to address the growing range of threats targeting OT devices, protocols, and applications. For organizations managing unpatched OT devices, FortiGuard Labs continues to expand its OT virtual patching rules, which automatically block attempts to exploit known vulnerabilities. These protections reduce risk and give teams time to plan, test, and apply patches within operational constraints, such as limited maintenance windows and the need for continuous availability. They also add protection for legacy devices that can no longer be patched. To further secure remote connectivity, Fortinet has added secure remote access features to FortiPAM, its privileged access management solution, helping organizations control privileged access to sensitive OT systems. Supporting secure OT modernization. By combining rugged connectivity, secure remote access, industrial wireless technologies, and independently validated security, the Fortinet AI-Enabled OT Security Platform helps reduce cyber risk across a range of industrial use cases. These investments address the challenges OT organizations face as they modernize, including evolving ransomware and geopolitical threats, increased regulatory scrutiny, and ongoing cybersecurity workforce shortages. An integrated platform helps teams manage these demands while enhancing operational efficiency and resilience. By protecting distributed operations, governing privileged access, and automating security operations, Fortinet helps industry and government organizations securely modernize essential infrastructure. Strengthening the resilience of these systems supports national preparedness, economic stability, and the continuity of services communities depend on.
