Requirements
  • Juris Doctor and 5 or more years of experience in litigation.
  • Membership in good standing of the Illinois State Bar Association.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and Adobe.
  • Experience working with Lexis or Westlaw.
  • Knowledge of the insurance industry, claims, and the insurance defense litigation legal environment.
  • Knowledge of law and procedure.
Responsibilities
  • Represent the Company in all phases of Workers’ Compensation litigation in Illinois, including Chicago, the Chicagoland Collar Counties, and Zone 3 locations.
  • Practice law in compliance with ethical standards established by state law.
  • Prepare and defend moderate- to high-exposure Workers’ Compensation cases from a varied caseload.
  • Work directly with claims professionals to provide legal analysis and advice.
  • Prepare and file legal pleadings and documents.
  • Perform legal research.
  • Prepare for and conduct pre-trial investigations.
  • Prepare for and handle pre-trials and arbitration hearings before the Workers’ Compensation Arbitrator.
  • Conduct post-trial activities, including appeals to the Commission, Circuit Court, and/or Appellate Courts where appropriate.
  • Work under limited direction within broad limits and authority on complex assignments requiring specialized knowledge.

Zurich launches LifeVault platform. Organising wills and documents. Provider, Zurich, has launched a digital platform, LifeVault, for customers to organise wills, important documents, personal wishes and memories in one place. Zurich said the platform is designed to extend support beyond the traditional life insurance pay out. According to the provider's survey of 2,000 UK adults, managing probate or estate administration falls to 42% of people facing the death of a loved one. The provider found that 60% of people responsible for probate found it difficult, which increased to 83% of millennials. While 79% of adults had worries about how their loved ones will cope after they pass, Zurich said 48% of the adult population (48%) have a valid will.
