Requirements
  • Knowledge of computing languages or frameworks for scientific and engineering analysis such as C++, MATLAB, Simulink, R, or Python.
  • Creativity in environments where the problem is not initially well-defined.
  • Ability to absorb a broad array of information from scientific and mathematical fields.
  • Ability to identify relationships between a system and its operational usage, including logistics, planning, environmental, and risk factors.
  • Ability to express technical ideas successfully to others in order to provide understanding.
  • Previous success providing ideas in written form for clear comprehension by an audience.
  • Previous success collaborating in a multidisciplinary, team-oriented culture.
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Science.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience for the Advanced Professional level or 14 years of relevant experience for the Senior Professional level.
  • Eligibility to obtain a government security clearance.
  • Eligibility to participate in the Applied Research Laboratory drug testing program and comply with electronic and physical monitoring requirements applicable to federal contractors.
  • U.S. citizenship.
Responsibilities
  • Lead small teams of engineers by tracking, developing, and managing the technical performance of 2 to 4 research and development engineers.
  • Work with Navy officers, engineers, scientists, and mathematicians to aggregate subject-matter expertise and understand problems from multiple perspectives.
  • Resolve questions about complex or ill-defined systems and deliver concrete findings and guidance to customers.
  • Use modeling and simulation to evaluate technologies and concepts for current or next-generation undersea systems.
  • Communicate technical findings to community stakeholders and sponsors within the Department of Defense or Intelligence Community.
  • Promote the research center's technical capabilities and propose work opportunities to Department of Defense and Intelligence Community sponsors.
  • Manage larger teams of 3 to 10 people at the higher position level.
  • Provide input to strategic planning for the department.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with undersea systems and applying this experience to assess new concepts.
  • Experience with modeling and simulation, particularly for questions involving interacting systems, applied physics, or mathematics.
  • Experience managing tasks for small teams.
  • Current eligibility for access to classified information at the Secret level or higher, with possible government background investigation requirements to upgrade clearance eligibility.
