About the job

Requirements
  • At least 4 years of professional mechanical design experience with machines, fixtures, tooling, automation equipment, precision mechanisms, production equipment, or complex mechanical assemblies.
  • Demonstrated ability to design complete mechanical systems rather than only individual parts.
  • Ability to design for tight tolerances, precision alignment, repeatability, stiffness, thermal stability, and practical manufacturability, including single-digit micron-level precision where required.
  • Experience creating or reviewing detailed mechanical designs, drawings, bills of materials, and released design packages.
  • Working knowledge of motion components such as linear guides, bearings, actuators, motors, encoders, sensors, and mechanical drive systems.
  • Ability to create and review engineering calculations, tolerance stack-ups, and design trade studies.
  • Practical understanding of computer numerical control machining, fabrication, assembly, inspection, and design for manufacturing.
  • Engineering degree or equivalent demonstrated technical capability.
  • Strong problem-solving ability, attention to detail, and willingness to work through ambiguity.
  • Must be either a United States citizen or permanent resident with a valid I-551 card; work visas are not acceptable.
  • Must submit a cover letter describing interest in working at Voxel and its mission.
Responsibilities
  • Design machines, fixtures, tooling, and mechanical systems that meet demanding accuracy, repeatability, and performance requirements.
  • Develop mechanical concepts from rough requirements through detailed design, review, release, build support, testing, and improvement.
  • Own meaningful portions of designs from concept through computer-aided design, drawings, bills of materials, vendor coordination, procurement support, troubleshooting, and iteration.
  • Analyze designs for stiffness, strength, thermal effects, vibration, tolerance stack-up, alignment, serviceability, and manufacturability.
  • Select and integrate motion components, bearings, structures, actuators, sensors, tooling, and precision assembly features.
  • Design sheet-metal parts, machined components, weldments, brackets, enclosures, fixtures, and assemblies as needed.
  • Design in computer-aided design software and work with CAD designers to create detailed three-dimensional models, drawings, bills of materials, and released design packages.
  • Participate in design reviews and use engineering judgment to identify risks, tradeoffs, and better solutions.
  • Collaborate with process engineers, electrical engineers, controls engineers, machinists, technicians, and vendors.
  • Support machine assembly, commissioning, troubleshooting, and testing when engineering involvement is needed.
  • Improve machine design standards, design calculations, error-budgeting methods, and engineering workflows.
  • Improve each generation of machines for accuracy, repeatability, reliability, manufacturability, and cost-effectiveness.
Desired Qualifications
  • A portfolio or project examples, including photos, CAD screenshots, drawings, test results, or project summaries without confidential details.

About the company

Voxel Innovations provides precision metal component manufacturing using pulsed electrochemical machining (PECM) without introducing thermal or mechanical stress. It serves sectors such as aerospace, medical devices, and electronics by producing high-quality, intricate parts. The process removes material through controlled electrochemical pulses, resulting in burr-free, deposit-free surfaces and no tool marks. The company collaborates with clients early in the design phase to tailor PECM solutions to specific engineering and economic needs, then delivers project-based contracts or long-term partnerships. Compared with competitors, Voxel Innovations focuses on PECM to achieve stress-free, very smooth finishes and complex geometries that are difficult with traditional methods. Its goal is to provide reliable, customized PECM services that meet strict performance requirements for critical applications.

What believers are saying

  • Voxel added aerospace and medical pages in February 2026, signaling active market expansion.
  • 2026 hiring for technicians, controls, and automation shows production scaling at Knightdale.
  • Inc. 5000 No. 71 in August 2026 signals strong growth and market traction.

What critics are saying

  • Voxel depends on niche PECM demand; aerospace and medical slowdown hits utilization fast.
  • PECM only works on conductive metals, excluding plastics, ceramics, and composites.
  • No funding, backlog, or customer concentration disclosure limits visibility and raises going-concern risk.

What makes Voxel Innovations unique

  • Voxel's PECM avoids heat, force, and tool wear on hard conductive metals.
  • AS9100D and ISO 13485 certifications support aerospace and medical manufacturing credibility.
  • Knightdale facility quadrupled floor space in 2024, enabling production, R&D, and metrology.
