Abbott (NYSE:ABT) shares, now under $100, could reach about $210 by 2036 under a conservative model, according to one investor's analysis. The model assumes earnings per share grow 8% a year to $11.93, with a valuation multiple of 17.5x. Abbott grew adjusted earnings per share at 9.7% a year over the past decade, from $2.20 in 2016 to an expected $5.53 this year. Sales rose from nearly $21 billion to about $47 billion, helped by buying St. Jude Medical for $25 billion, Alere for $5.8 billion, and Exact Sciences for $21 billion. The stock has returned more than 175% with dividends reinvested over 10 years. It yields 2.5% and has raised its dividend for 54 consecutive years. Updates and evolution in aortic disease care, with Edward Chen, MD.

Updates and evolution in aortic disease care, with Edward Chen, MD. Chen discusses his experience with aortic and cardiac surgery, as well as ongoing research into ways to optimize and improve care. care has been on an upward trajectory in 2026, with recent guideline updates and trial readouts providing new perspectives on the myriad issues within this specialty. In an interview with HCPLive, Edward Chen, MD, professor of surgery at Thomas Jefferson University and chief of cardiac surgery at Jefferson Abington Hospital, discussed his perspective on the growth of aortic surgery and his expertise in its application. "Over the last 25 years since I started my training in cardiac surgery, taking care of the patient after the operation has really led to significant improvement in the outcomes of these types of operations," Chen told HCPLive. "Whereas before it might have been a coin flip, and it would be hard to know if someone's going to do well, now, with the right patient selection and thorough evaluation of all of the variables, we can be very confident that many of these patients can go on to not only normal recovery, but a normal life." Chen's statements on this patient-first approach mirror the recently published European Society for Vascular Surgery (ESVS) 2026 Clinical Practice Guidelines, published in February 2026, which emphasize the importance of the patient-centered treatment process. In the guidelines, the authors suggest that clinicians expand their focus to include patient perspectives while tailoring interventions to fit life expectancy and functional status. Additionally, the document pushes for further inclusion of multidisciplinary care, centralizing treatment in high-volume centers and prioritizing team-based decision making in regard to care.[1] Aortic disease care is also evolving through ongoing clinical trials, including the ARISE III trial at Stanford University. The program focuses on a less invasive alternative for certain high-risk patients with de novo Type A aortic dissections, evaluating the efficacy and safety of a new investigational stent graft device. The trial began in May of 2026 and is currently ongoing with plans to conclude in 2030. ARISE III currently aims to enroll 112 patients across the US.[2] Jefferson Health is also participating in an ongoing trial investigating the efficacy and safety of the Navitor Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) system, which is in development by Abbott. Roughly 1500 patients will be enrolled in the trial at <=80 sites in the US and <=15 internationally. The device will be investigated in both patients with symptomatic, severe native aortic stenosis at intermediate or low risk of surgical mortality and in patients with symptomatic heart disease due to failure of a surgical or transcatheter bioprosthetic aortic valve at high or greater surgical risk.[3] Chen also discussed his move to Jefferson Health and his upcoming projects within the organization, highlighting several potential targets for research. "A lot of this work involves looking at aortic root surgery outcomes related to valve repair, aortic arch operations, various methods for protection - not just what I do, but also what my colleagues do in microval repair, coronary artery bypass, transplantation, and so on," Chen said. "There's a wide breadth of research going on here, and really, I'm only just scratching the surface of what's being done." Editors' Note: Chen reports no relevant disclosures. HealthTab(TM) and HeartEye open new referral pathway into community pharmacy.

HealthTab(TM) and HeartEye open new referral pathway into community pharmacy. VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Oct. 08, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) - AVRICORE HEALTH INC. (TSXV: AVCR) (the "Company" or "Avricore") is pleased to announce that its wholly owned subsidiary, HealthTab Ltd. ("HealthTab"), has completed an integration with HeartEye, a UK provider of AI-based retinal cardiovascular risk assessment. The integration creates a new referral pathway into community pharmacy: people found to be at elevated cardiovascular risk by a HeartEye retinal scan at their optician can be referred to a nearby HealthTab-enabled pharmacy for further assessment and care. HealthTab and Abbott will be showcasing their turnkey pharmacy-based point-of-care testing solution at The Pharmacy Show 2026, taking place October 11-12 at the NEC in Birmingham, including the new HeartEye integration as part of the connected patient journey. Identify, Assess, Act in the Community HeartEye's Dr.Noon CVD test, developed by Mediwhale, uses AI to estimate cardiovascular risk from a retinal scan taken during a routine visit to a participating optician. When a patient is flagged at elevated risk, their Dr.Noon report QR code can now be scanned into HealthTab at a nearby pharmacy. The pharmacist carries out a point-of-care cholesterol test, which feeds an automatic QRISK3 calculation, with all results displayed together on the patient's HealthTab dashboard to provide a more complete assessment of their cardiovascular risk. With newly qualified pharmacists in England registering as independent prescribers from September 2026, the pathway has the potential to take patients from identification and assessment through to treatment, where appropriate, within the community. This directly supports all three of the NHS 10 Year Health Plan's major shifts: from hospital to community, from analogue to digital, and from sickness to prevention. For pharmacy partners, the pathway brings in new patients with identified clinical need, helping them grow their clinical services and opening a new route for patients into the HealthTab network. "Screening is only valuable if it leads to action," said Rodger Seccombe, CEO of Avricore Health. "Too often, people found to be at risk are told to book a GP appointment, and many never do. The expanding Barts Health programme has shown what is possible when pharmacies can assess risk and, where appropriate, start treatment in the same visit. This integration extends that model to people identified through their optician, and we believe it can be replicated across other community-based screening initiatives that identify patients upstream of the pharmacy." HealthTab(TM) at the Core of Scalable, Integrated PoCT HealthTab(TM) provides a complete, turnkey solution underpinning national pharmacy-based PoCT networks, including best-in-class instruments, consumables, onboarding, training, and ongoing support for participating sites. At its centre is a secure cloud-based platform that seamlessly connects point-of-care analyzers, patient results, QC data, and pharmacist workflows, creating a unified digital infrastructure for community-based testing. This integrated approach ensures quality-assured testing, consistent data capture across locations, and real-time analytics to support public-health reporting and performance monitoring, while reducing implementation complexity for pharmacy partners. Commitment to Quality and Accuracy HealthTab(TM) is designed to meet the highest standards of analytical performance and reliability. Through its partnership with CEQAL Inc., a world-leading reference method laboratory and member of the CDC Cholesterol Reference Method Laboratory Network (CRMLN), HealthTab operates a comprehensive quality management program that mirrors the rigour of accredited clinical laboratories. This includes centralized lot monitoring of reagents, mandated internal quality control, and regular external quality-assessment (EQA) events, ensuring that results generated across every participating pharmacy are accurate, traceable, and consistent with internationally recognized reference standards. About Avricore Health Inc. Avricore Health Inc. Abbott CardioMEMS wins FDA approval for patient-facing app features.

Abbott CardioMEMS wins FDA approval for patient-facing app features. Published October 5, 2026 Elena Rossi Medical Devices & HealthTech, AI Research Agent Abbott announced on Oct. 5, 2026 that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved updates to the CardioMEMS HF System that enable new patient-facing capabilities through the company's CardioGuide HF App. For the first time, care teams can allow U.S. CardioMEMS patients to view their pulmonary artery pressure (PAP) readings directly on their smartphones. The CardioGuide HF App is a mobile application for people living with heart failure who have an implanted CardioMEMS pulmonary artery pressure sensor. It displays a patient's own PAP readings and trends on an iOS or Android smartphone. Abbott said it plans to make the CardioGuide HF App and a companion software feature, Dynamic Treatment Plan, available later this year. Pulmonary artery pressure is the pressure of blood flowing from the right side of the heart into the lungs. According to Abbott, rising PAP is one of the earliest signs of worsening heart failure and can occur weeks before a patient experiences symptoms. For more than a decade, clinicians have used PAP readings from the CardioMEMS HF System to help identify signs of worsening heart failure and guide treatment. The CardioMEMS HF System measures PAP through a small sensor implanted permanently in the pulmonary artery. The system also includes the CardioMEMS HERO device, which patients use to take pressure readings, and the Merlin.net Patient Care Network Portal, which transmits those readings to the care team. The CardioGuide HF App complements the system by giving patients direct visibility into their readings and trends on their smartphones. Dynamic Treatment Plan. The approved updates also include Dynamic Treatment Plan (DTP), a software feature that allows clinicians to set up personalized medication adjustment plans based on changes in a patient's PAP. Once a plan is in place, DTP can send medication adjustment instructions directly to CardioMEMS patients through the CardioGuide HF App. The feature is available through Abbott's Merlin.net Patient Care Network Portal, and when a clinician enables it, patients receive updates related to their individual heart failure management plan through the app. "Heart failure can worsen before patients notice shortness of breath, swelling or weight gain. Pulmonary artery pressure readings can help identify changes earlier, giving care teams an opportunity to adjust treatment before symptoms develop," said Andrew J. Sauer, M.D., cardiologist and vice president for research at Saint Luke's Mid America Heart Institute and professor of medicine at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. "By giving patients greater visibility into their condition, these new capabilities help them stay informed, engaged and connected to their care between doctor visits," said Katie Spayde, vice president of Abbott's heart failure division. Posted indication and safety information. The system's posted U.S. indications and safety information state that the CardioMEMS HF System is indicated for wirelessly measuring and monitoring pulmonary artery pressure and heart rate in NYHA Class II or III heart failure patients who either have been hospitalized for heart failure in the previous year and/or have elevated natriuretic peptides. The hemodynamic data are used by physicians for heart failure management with the goal of controlling pulmonary artery pressures and reducing heart failure hospitalizations. The CardioMEMS HF System is contraindicated for patients with an inability to take dual antiplatelet or anticoagulants for one month post implant. Listed potential adverse events associated with the implantation procedure include air embolism, allergic reaction, infection, delayed wound healing, arrhythmias, bleeding, hemoptysis, hematoma, nausea, cerebrovascular accident, thrombus, cardiovascular injury, myocardial infarction, death, embolism, thermal burn, cardiac perforation, pneumothorax, thoracic duct injury and hemothorax. Abbott characterizes the CardioMEMS HF System as the leading remote hemodynamic monitoring platform for heart failure patients and, supported by more than a decade of clinical evidence, as the most-studied and only FDA-approved wireless heart failure monitoring system proven to reduce heart failure hospitalizations and mortality risk. Studies the company cites in support of those claims are Heywood et al. in J Card Fail (2023), Adamson et al. in Circ Heart Fail (2016), a Lindenfeld et al. meta-analysis of implantable hemodynamic monitors in J Am Coll Cardiol (2024), and Zalawadiya et al. in JACC Heart Fail (2025). The October announcement follows Abbott's Feb. 27, 2026 disclosure that the FDA had approved the CardioMEMS HERO device, a next-generation pulmonary artery pressure reader, with U.S. commercial release to begin soon. Abbott stated the HERO reader is 60% lighter than the previous model, takes a reading in less than 60 seconds on average, and is the only patient reader with integrated Wi-Fi and cellular connectivity. The reader is compatible with the current commercially available CardioMEMS PA Sensor. Citing a Heart Failure Society of America report, Abbott also stated that approximately 6.7 million people in the United States have heart failure and that the number is expected to grow to 8.5 million by 2030.
