Requirements
  • Basic computer operation skills.
  • Basic Microsoft Windows experience.
  • Must possess the physical and mental abilities to perform the required tasks, including sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, and reaching, with occasional lifting or carrying up to 25 pounds.
Responsibilities
  • Continuously monitor up to ten patients at a time while remaining alert during the shift.
  • Communicate effectively with patients using a microphone and headset, and communicate with hospital staff about patient behavioral changes.
  • Receive a report from the registered nurse about the patient before placing the patient under continuous visual monitoring.
  • Enter appropriate patient information accurately into the telemonitoring software and document initiation of monitoring on the patient log.
  • Perform hourly virtual rounds, including evaluating environmental safety and verbally communicating with the patient when appropriate.
  • Continuously monitor patients and attempt verbal redirection as necessary.
  • Contact floor staff through the communication device when a patient issue requires staff attention, and activate the stat alarm when a patient does not follow directions or an emergency occurs.
  • Initiate the electronic privacy curtain upon clinical staff request and follow up when the allotted time expires.
  • Update patient status when the patient is out of the room and follow up on expected return times.
  • Document prevented events in the Intervention Log, adverse events in the Adverse Event Log, and patient activities at the required intervals and as needed.
  • Assist the Gatekeeper and nurse leaders in identifying patients who may be removed from continuous telemonitoring.
  • Notify the Gatekeeper when telemonitoring devices are available.
  • Provide the oncoming floor and monitor staff with a shift report on patient status, activities, notable behaviors, and trends.
  • Follow the hospital-specific communication escalation plan.
  • After completing the required patient companion competencies, provide constant observation of behavioral and at-risk patients.
  • Perform other duties consistent with the role.
Desired Qualifications
  • Crisis Prevention Institute training is preferred or may be obtained before orientation is completed.
  • A high school diploma or GED is preferred.
  • Healthcare experience is preferred.
  • Licensed Nursing Assistant qualification is preferred.
  • Geriatric or mental health experience is preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience that provides proficiency in the listed responsibilities may substitute for the stated education and experience.
