KONE appoints Arun Bhatia as MD for Southeast Asia.

KONE appoints Arun Bhatia as MD for Southeast Asia. 16 minutes ago October 14, 2026 The next phase of competition in the elevator and escalator industry will be shaped by more than the number of new buildings coming up. Digital service delivery, modernisation of ageing equipment, energy efficiency, and the ability to build lasting customer relationships are becoming increasingly important to how companies compete. For KONE, Arun Bhatia's appointment as Managing Director for Southeast Asia signals a leadership focus on navigating these opportunities across a diverse and rapidly evolving region. Effective October 1, 2026, Bhatia succeeds Edward Loy, who is retiring after 11 years with the company. According to KONE's announcement, Bhatia brings more than 35 years of experience in the building and climate solutions industry, with a strong emphasis on growth, business transformation, customer success, and people development. The appointment comes at a significant point in KONE's strategic journey. Its 2025-2030 strategy, titled Rise, sets out an ambition to lead in customer and employee experience, innovation, sustainability, growth, and profitability. Four priorities underpin this plan: accelerating digitalisation, expanding modernisation opportunities, strengthening its position in residential markets, and reducing carbon emissions. From market presence to profitable growth For KONE, the opportunity in Southeast Asia lies in converting the region's changing urban landscape into sustainable business growth. As cities expand and existing buildings undergo renewal, demand can emerge across the equipment lifecycle, from new installations to maintenance, upgrades, and modernisation. This creates a more complex commercial challenge. Companies must compete for new projects while also retaining customers over long service relationships, improving operational responsiveness, and demonstrating the long-term value of their solutions. Digital tools can strengthen this proposition by enabling more transparent service, better equipment monitoring, and faster responses to customer needs. Bhatia's experience in business leadership and transformation is relevant to this broader agenda. His mandate will involve translating corporate priorities into market-level execution, building customer confidence, and aligning teams around commercial performance. While the appointment announcement does not specify new regional targets, his background suggests a leadership profile suited to an industry where customer experience and execution increasingly influence competitiveness. Sustainability and modernisation move up the agenda The built environment remains a major focus for decarbonisation efforts, with buildings accounting for a substantial share of global emissions. Elevators and escalators are part of this equation, particularly when improvements in equipment efficiency, building operations, and lifecycle management can reduce energy use and extend asset life. KONE's strategy places sustainability alongside digitalisation and modernisation, reflecting the commercial opportunity in helping building owners improve performance while meeting evolving environmental expectations. Modernisation is particularly relevant where existing infrastructure must serve changing user needs without requiring complete replacement. For regional leadership, the challenge is to make these capabilities commercially meaningful across markets with different levels of urban development, customer expectations, and investment priorities. Consistent service quality, local market understanding, and strong execution will therefore be essential. Continuity with a new growth mandate The transition also marks the end of Edward Loy's 11-year tenure as Managing Director for Southeast Asia. Bhatia's arrival offers KONE an opportunity to build on the existing business while advancing the priorities of its current strategy. Ultimately, the appointment reflects a wider shift in industrial leadership. Growth increasingly depends on combining technical capability with customer relationships, digital services, sustainability, and disciplined execution. For KONE, Bhatia's task will be to bring these elements together across Southeast Asia, strengthening the business as the region's cities and built environment continue to evolve. Views: 2,538

India is a manufacturing centre for the world: Philippe Delorme, President and CEO, KONE Corporation.

India is a manufacturing centre for the world: Philippe Delorme, President and CEO, KONE Corporation. Last updated: October 12, 2026 1:10 pm Finland-headquartered KONE Corporation, one of the world's largest elevator and escalator makers, is betting on India's ageing lift infrastructure to drive its next phase of growth. With an estimated installed base of nearly one million elevators and a growing need for upgrades, the company sees significant opportunities in modernisation and retrofit solutions alongside new installations. In an interview with businessline, Philippe Delorme, President and CEO of KONE Corporation, discussed India's growth prospects, technology-led retrofit solutions, expansion plans beyond metros, investment priorities and the proposed acquisition of TK Elevator. Edited excerpts: India's estimated one-million-lift installed base presents a substantial modernisation opportunity. How is KONE approaching this market? India is still a relatively young elevator market, but Eflip is beginning to see demand for modernising equipment installed earlier. Eflip is at the beginning of this opportunity. Eflip has developed a solution that can modernise an elevator in one week. By simplifying and standardising the process, Eflip can complete essential upgrades much faster. For a six- to 10-storey residential building with a single elevator, shutting it down for five weeks is difficult, particularly for elderly residents or those with mobility challenges. Eflip is seeing encouraging traction for this offering. When will the one-week modernisation programme be launched in India? Eflip intend to introduce it in the coming weeks. Its ambition is to complete suitable projects in one week, particularly in buildings of up to about 10 floors. Not every installation will qualify, but Eflip want to achieve this wherever technically feasible. KONE has invested around ₹450 crore in its Sriperumbudur manufacturing facility near Chennai. What further investments are planned through FY2030? India is a manufacturing centre for the world. Sriperumbudur is one of its four principal manufacturing locations globally. The plant primarily serves India, but Eflip also want to increase its export capacity. India has been an important market for Eflip, particularly over the past decade. Manufacturing, technology and innovation remain central to its development here. When do you expect the proposed €29.4-billion acquisition of TK Elevator to close, and what would it mean for India? Eflip has announced its intention to combine with TK Elevator, but the transaction has not closed. Regulatory approvals are required in India, Europe and the US. Eflip believe the conditions are right, but the authorities must give their approval. Eflip is planning for a closing in 2027, potentially towards the latter part of the year. Until then, Eflip continue to compete with TK Elevator. TK Elevator has operations in India, and Eflip would look at combining those operations if the transaction receives the necessary approvals. KONE has held roughly 25 per cent of India's elevator market for several years. Could the acquisition help it capture a larger share? Eflip do not comment on market-share figures for individual countries. Eflip is one of the leaders in India and aim for leadership. Its differentiation comes from safety, customer satisfaction and innovation. These have driven its development in India and will continue to guide Eflip. Beyond the major metros, where do you see the strongest growth opportunities? Eflip is well established in high-rise and mid-rise buildings in major cities. Eflip also see opportunities in the next 20 cities, where Eflip has expanded its geographical presence, particularly in low-rise and mid-rise developments. Residential construction remains a major driver. Buildings are becoming taller, increasing demand for higher-speed elevators. Are you developing products for emerging segments such as luxury villas and data centres? Eflip see opportunities across residential segments, from high-rise developments in Mumbai to individual villas. Eflip has introduced Villa 100 for premium residential properties and are seeing encouraging demand. What is KONE's single biggest priority over the next five years? Digital transformation. It is something Eflip cannot afford to miss. Digital technology helps Eflip improve safety, predict maintenance requirements and deliver a better customer experience. Its new Digital Experience Center in Pune is an important milestone in demonstrating these capabilities to customers. Published on October 12, 2026

DooH in elevatorsvertical City reaches 10,000 elevator screens.

DooH in elevatorsvertical City reaches 10,000 elevator screens. Canadian DooH company is expanding its North American advertising network through partnerships with elevator manufacturers. October 9, 2026 by John Berkovich Toronto-based Vertical City has reached 10,000 elevator screens across Canada and the United States, supported by a growth strategy that integrates digital advertising into elevator communication systems. The company expects to become North America's largest elevator screen network by early 2027, although it has not disclosed its current market share or the number of additional screens needed to reach that position. Instead of relying exclusively on standalone advertising displays, Vertical City is partnering with elevator manufacturers to provide software for screens installed as part of elevator systems. These displays serve multiple purposes, including emergency communication, floor information, building announcements and digital advertising. The approach allows Vertical City to expand its DooH inventory as manufacturers deploy connected elevator systems. Building on existing infrastructure. Vertical City's partnerships include elevator manufacturer KONE and MAD Elevator, which supplies elevator fixtures and communication systems. Changes in elevator safety requirements are also creating opportunities for connected displays. Modern systems increasingly incorporate video monitoring and visual communication capabilities to assist passengers during emergencies. Vertical City's software enables these screens to display operational information and building messages alongside advertising content. "Once screens became part of the elevator itself, the model changed," said Fouad El-Masri, CEO and co-founder of Vertical City. "Integration into that infrastructure changes the economics and the speed at which a media network can grow." For building operators, the integrated approach eliminates the need for a separate advertising device while providing an additional communication channel for tenants, residents and visitors. Expanding multi-market advertising. The 10,000-screen milestone also expands the reach of Vertical Impression, the company's media sales division, which connects advertisers and agencies with elevator audiences across Canada and the United States. Vertical City works with Screenverse to market its elevator advertising inventory. The companies are positioning the network for multi-market and national campaigns, emphasizing repeated exposure in residential, commercial and other buildings. Unlike conventional roadside OoH placements, elevator screens reach audiences during relatively short, recurring journeys within buildings. Vertical City has not disclosed audience figures or the geographic distribution of its 10,000 screens. The company plans to continue expanding through its relationships with elevator manufacturers, using connected displays that already serve operational and safety functions to build additional advertising inventory.
