About the job

Requirements
  • Has roughly 3 or more years of experience building and shipping production software, including taking a meaningful product from idea to production, writing code, and remaining accountable for its performance.
  • Has strong full-stack engineering skills, clean production coding practices, and sound engineering fundamentals, with a front-end lean rather than a deep systems specialization.
  • Has designed the data model and architecture for a real product, including how records relate and change over time and how to handle messy integration data.
  • Understands users and can give examples of how customer insight changed what they built.
  • Sets a high bar for simple, usable, and understandable experiences.
  • Can weigh customer impact against engineering effort and identify simpler, lower-cost ways to achieve outcomes.
  • Has a viewpoint on agentic product experiences, from approved suggestions to trusted delegation of tasks.
  • Can explain technical decisions clearly to customers, sales representatives, and engineers; seeks input early and collaborates effectively.
  • Uses AI tools to prototype ideas quickly and test rough versions.
  • Works effectively with loose direction and autonomy, and helps shape ambiguous problems.
Responsibilities
  • Research how crews, foremen, and office teams work with product managers; identify the reasons behind workflows and where they break.
  • Own the product lifecycle from discovery and technical design through development, release, and subsequent iterations.
  • Decide what to build, how to build it, and what to leave out, connecting decisions to customer outcomes and company growth.
  • Contribute to design decisions, review code, help other engineers improve, and help shape engineering practices as the team grows.
  • Balance speed, accuracy, and simplicity across projects, deciding what can be improved after launch and what must be correct initially, and explain those tradeoffs clearly.

About the company

Workyard provides a SaaS workforce management platform for construction and field services, focusing on accurate timekeeping and payroll efficiency. It uses a GPS-enabled time clock with geofencing to record hours only on active worksites during work hours and includes job scheduling to dispatch crews. It integrates with payroll systems like QuickBooks and ADP to streamline payroll and control labor costs. Serving over 50,000 tradespeople, its goal is to simplify workforce management for contractors by improving time data accuracy, crew management, and project profitability.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • Workyard launched Time Assistant in September 2026, adding AI payroll review automation.
  • The company says it now serves 100,000 daily tradespeople, signaling usage growth.
  • Pricing starts at $6 per user monthly, supporting adoption among smaller contractors.

What critics are saying

  • Workyard's last publicly visible funding was January 2020, limiting firepower versus Procore and QuickBooks.
  • Construction payroll is crowded; ADP, Procore, and Intuit can bundle similar workflows.
  • If GPS accuracy or labor-compliance logic fails, customer trust collapses quickly.

What makes Workyard unique

  • Workyard ties GPS clock-ins, job codes, and payroll export in one construction flow.
  • Its deep integrations span QuickBooks, ADP, Gusto, Paychex, and Sage.
  • The platform is construction-specific, with geofencing, scheduling, and prevailing-wage workflows.
