Cardinal Health beats Danaher as rotation from AI hits healthcare stocks

Cardinal Health shares rose over 10% year-to-date but dropped more than 8% since early September. Jim Cramer attributed the decline to investor rotation into AI stocks rather than weak performance, calling the sell-off "stupid" given the company's strong quarterly results. Cardinal Health's fiscal fourth quarter earnings beat analyst estimates with profit per share of $2.91 and full-year guidance of $12.40 to $12.60 exceeding the $12.04 estimate. The pharmaceutical business grew revenue 6% annually to $55.4 billion, driven by demand for branded and specialty drugs. However, Q4 revenue of $63.67 billion missed analyst estimates of $65.03 billion. Management cautioned investors about normalisation ahead, particularly in specialty growth rates. By comparison, Danaher shares fell over 7% year-to-date after deferring $100 million in revenue and cutting its full-year revenue growth guidance.

Danaher's bioprocessing miss drags Bio-Rad stock lower via $5.6B Sartorius stake

Danaher Corporation reported Q2 2026 revenue of $6.3 billion, up 5.5% year-over-year, with adjusted diluted EPS rising 8% to $1.94. The company raised its full-year adjusted EPS guidance to $8.45–$8.60, driven by Life Sciences strength and mid-teens bioprocessing order growth. However, Danaher's bioprocessing unit missed expectations, signalling continued softness in biopharma demand. The news sent shares of Sartorius AG lower, which in turn affected Bio-Rad Laboratories, which holds a $5 billion stake in Sartorius. Bio-Rad shares fell about 1% in early trading. Bio-Rad reported Q2 net sales of $651 million, flat year-over-year. Its Life Science segment declined 4.1% to $252 million due to academic funding constraints. On 31 July, Bio-Rad announced a restructuring plan involving headcount reductions and facility closures, expecting $80 million to $90 million in pre-tax charges.

Thermo Fisher raises guidance as life sciences recovery broadens vs Danaher's uneven rebound

Thermo Fisher Scientific and Danaher, two major life sciences tools companies, both reported better-than-expected second-quarter results, but their recoveries show different trajectories. Thermo Fisher posted 10% revenue growth to $11.99 billion and 13% adjusted EPS growth to $6.03. The company raised guidance citing broad-based demand improvement across pharmaceutical and biotechnology markets. Its Life Sciences Solutions segment grew 13% year-over-year, whilst Analytical Instruments returned to growth after nearly two years of weak demand. Danaher's recovery remains more uneven, though it achieved high-single-digit adjusted EPS growth with improving core growth versus the previous quarter. Thermo Fisher's recovery appears more broad-based across multiple segments, suggesting greater durability. The company continues investing in product innovation, including new Orbitrap mass spectrometers.
