  • A Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology is required.
  • A valid Ohio license in Speech Pathology is required.
  • A valid Ohio driver’s license and proof of auto insurance are required. The candidate must pass the hospital’s motor vehicle background inspection, meet insurance eligibility and driving qualifications, complete required training, and maintain compliance with insurance guidelines.
  • Certification in Speech Pathology from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association is required, or the candidate must be eligible for supervision by a certified speech-language pathologist during a fellowship experience.
  • CPR certification must be obtained no later than 60 days after hire or 60 days after expiration.
Responsibilities
  • Administer therapeutic treatment to patients with developmental delays or functional deficits to support optimal development, function, and independence; use developmental activities and other techniques tailored to patient needs and therapy goals, and modify treatment plans as appropriate.
  • Communicate patient status and collaborate with physicians, third-party payors, and relevant healthcare providers.
  • Conduct speech-language pathology educational programs and provide instruction to hospital staff, students, and the community; delegate to students from accredited programs and supervise Clinical Fellows and licensed speech aides.
  • Document in compliance with hospital and accrediting-association requirements, and manage individual caseload administration, including scheduling, entering daily charges, and submitting timely documentation.
  • Educate patients and families about treatment goals and therapy plans, instruct them on therapeutic activities to perform at home, and evaluate ongoing compliance and understanding.
  • Evaluate patients with varied diagnoses to determine developmental and functional status using standardized measures or clinical observations; identify strengths and deficits, establish goals, and develop individualized treatment plans incorporating patient and family needs.

DeWine celebrates success of Appalachian Children's Health Initiative. Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and Ohio Department of Development Director Lydia Mihalik today announced the successful conclusion of the Appalachian Children's Health Initiative, an innovative program that dedicated more than $64 million to bring transformative care to children and families across Ohio's Appalachian region. Last week, the Appalachian Children's Health Initiative opened its 29th health clinic, located within the Chillicothe City School District. Chillicothe's new clinic is the final clinic funded through the program. "Too many children in Appalachia have had to travel long distances to get even basic healthcare. Today, more families can find that care close to home, including right at their child's school," said Governor DeWine. "These clinics are a lasting investment in the health and future of Ohio's children. Tomorrow's leaders are receiving care today because of this program, these clinics, and the many, many people who have helped this idea become reality." Of the 29 clinics, most are school-based health clinics operating in partnership with 16 regional healthcare partners and serving 34 school districts. While the availability of services varies between facilities, expanded services include comprehensive primary care, dental, vision, and mental health services for children, families, and community members. "As a mom of three, I know how quickly a child's illness can upend a school day and leave parents either scrambling to arrange care or step away from work," said Director Mihalik. "These clinics give families in this region one less barrier to navigate, which means more time for their kids to do what's most important - learning, growing, and being kids." Since the first clinic opened in 2024, the sites have accommodated nearly 33,000 patient visits, including more than 21,000 child visits. This has resulted in an average of 3.19 hours per student of saved learning time - hours preserved by visiting a school-based clinic instead of leaving campus. Created with support from the Ohio General Assembly, the Appalachian Children's Health Initiative was funded as part of the Governor DeWine's larger Appalachian Community Grant Program, which invested an unprecedented $500 million into Ohio's 32-county Appalachian region. The health clinic funding was awarded to the Appalachian Children Coalition and administered by the Governor's Office of Appalachia, housed within the Department of Development. "The Appalachian Children Coalition has been excited to lead this effort to bring local healthcare access to children across 36 Appalachian communities," said Randy Leite, executive director of the Appalachian Children Coalition. "The Appalachian Children's Health Initiative will assure children have access to the care they need without having to miss school to receive it. We appreciate the support of Governor DeWine, Director Mihalik, and Governor's Office of Appalachia Director John Carey and his staff." Nationwide Children's Hospital prepared the grant proposal for the program on behalf of the Appalachian Children Coalition, and served as a critical partner in the completion of the Appalachian Children's Health Initiative, providing implementation support and technical assistance to all awarded districts. "The Appalachian Children's Health Initiative demonstrates what is possible when local communities, schools, healthcare providers, and state partners come together around a shared commitment to children's health," said Mary Kay Irwin, Ed.D., senior director of school-based health at Nationwide Children's Hospital. "Nationwide Children's has been proud to support implementation, provide technical assistance, and help communities build sustainable models of school-based care. The success of this initiative reflects the dedication of our local partners and the impact that coordinated investments can have on improving access to care, keeping students healthy, and reducing the non-academic barriers to learning." Posted: Sep 22, 2026 / 11:30 AM EDT Updated: Sep 21, 2026 / 10:27 PM EDT COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) - Nationwide Children's Hospital has earned a place on the U.S. News & World Report Best Children's Hospitals Honor Roll for a 13th consecutive year. The Columbus-based hospital is one of 10 nationwide included on the 2026-27 Honor Roll. It tied Cincinnati Children's Hospital for No. 1 in Ohio, while the two Ohio hospitals and Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago shared the No. 1 Midwest ranking. Cincinnati Children's made the national Honor Roll for a 20th consecutive year. For the third year, U.S. News listed the Honor Roll hospitals alphabetically instead of ranking them numerically. The publication continues to assign numerical rankings to hospitals by state, region and individual medical specialty. See the latest NBC4 headlines in the video player above. Seven Nationwide Children's specialties ranked among the top 10 nationally: * No. 3 for gastroenterology and GI surgery: * No. 5 for urology * No. 6 for nephrology * No. 7 for pulmonology * No. 8 for cancer * No. 8 for neurology and neurosurgery * No. 8 for orthopedics The hospital ranked No. 13 for both diabetes and endocrine disorders and neonatal care. Its cardiology and heart surgery program ranked No. 23. The hospital was also included among the country's top 50 pediatric behavioral health programs for the third year. U.S. News does not assign individual numerical rankings within that category. "This recognition reflects our commitment to excellence and the extraordinary work of our teams, who provide exceptional care, pursue groundbreaking discoveries and support families through some of life's most challenging moments," Nationwide Children's CEO Tim Robinson said in a news release. U.S. News produces the annual rankings to help families and their doctors identify hospitals equipped to treat children with serious illnesses or complex medical needs. For the latest rankings, U.S. News and North Carolina research firm RTI International collected and analyzed information from 114 children's hospitals and surveyed thousands of pediatric specialists. Hospitals were evaluated on measures including clinical outcomes, compliance with established best practices, and the quality of resources directly related to patient care. For state and regional rankings, U.S. News gave more weight to strong performance across all 11 specialties than to a hospital's standing in any one specialty. Nationwide Children's employs more than 17,000 people, making it Ohio's 13th-largest employer. The health system provides more than 2 million patient visits annually and serves as the home of Ohio State University College of Medicine's Department of Pediatrics.

The U.S. News & World Report's 20th edition of Best Children's Hospitals analyzed data from over 100 pediatric hospitals and surveyed more than 40,000 pediatric specialists. Hospitals were ranked based on patient safety, clinical resources, family involvement and patient outcomes − such as survival, infections and surgical complications − over a 3-year period. Cincinnati Children's, along with Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus, also made the report's honor roll, a distinction awarded to the top 11 pediatric hospitals in the country that deliver high-quality care across multiple specialty areas. Cincinnati Children's has made the honor roll every year since the distinction started in 2009. Cincinnati Children's and Nationwide Children's each ranked highly across all specialties, tying for the best pediatric hospital in the state and the Midwest. "Every year, families from all 50 states and countries around the world seek us out when they need answers, options and hope," said Evaline Alessandrini, chief operating officer of Cincinnati Children's. "Our combination of nationally recognized clinical care and pioneering research allows us to offer treatment options that may not be available elsewhere." Cincinnati Children's ranked highest in behavioral health, neonatology, cancer, diabetes and endocrinology, gastroenterology and gastrointestinal surgery, nephrology, neurology and neurosurgery and pulmonology. Posted: Aug 31, 2026 / 12:00 PM EDT Updated: Aug 30, 2026 / 07:48 PM EDT COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) - A long-undeveloped parcel on East Main Street that has drawn redevelopment interest over the years is now part of Nationwide Children's Hospital's growing footprint near downtown Columbus. Nationwide Children's purchased the entire 3.62-acre block at 818 E. Main St. for $7.6 million on Aug. 7, according to Franklin County property records. The parcel sits on the south side of East Main Street between South 17th and South 18th streets and extends south to East Mound Street. The property is adjacent to Nationwide Children's Near East Office, a four-story office building and parking garage at 431 S. 18th St. that was completed in 2018. Turner Construction Company previously leased the East Main Street property for parking, a hospital spokesperson said. Nationwide Children's has not announced a specific development for the site. "Acquiring the property allows Nationwide Children's to plan thoughtfully for both the short-term and long-term future of a site that is now adjacent to our growing campus," the spokesperson said. The purchase adds to the hospital's holdings north of Interstate 70 while Nationwide Children's undertakes the largest construction investment in its history on its main campus south of the freeway. Nationwide Children's also owns a roughly one-third-acre parcel immediately west of the site, across South 17th Street, that it purchased in 2012, according to property records. Property records show the East Main Street parcel last sold for $575,000 to Smith Tandy Group in December 2012. The property was once owned by the Douglas Lula Foundation, associated with Columbus native and former world heavyweight boxing champion James "Buster" Douglas. The hospital already operates outpatient care locations east and west of the newly acquired property along East Main Street. Farther south, Nationwide Children's is building a 14-story acute-care tower at its main campus at 700 Children's Drive. The $1.27 billion project is expected to be completed in 2028 and add more than 430 beds. The tower is being constructed as a companion to the hospital's existing inpatient tower and will house emergency and critical care services, oncology, an expanded surgical area and a three-floor neonatal intensive care unit. Nationwide Children's has said the project represents the largest investment in the hospital's history as its campus continues to expand along the Interstate 70 corridor.
