Akamai lands $600M cloud deal as CEO addresses GPU capacity constraints

Akamai reported second-quarter revenue of $1.1 billion, narrowly beating analyst estimates. CEO F. Thomson Leighton attributed growth to AI-driven workloads and enterprise commitments, highlighting a new $600 million, four-year deal with a US technology company for cloud infrastructure. The company also cited security demand, including recent wins such as CrowdStrike, as a key revenue driver. However, operating margin declined to 7.3% from 14.5% year-on-year. During the earnings call, analysts probed GPU capacity constraints and revenue recognition timelines. CFO Edward McGowan explained that large deals typically take six to nine months to translate into recognised revenue. Management noted that initial infrastructure costs can temporarily depress margins before full profitability is achieved.

HSBC downgrades Akamai to hold, cuts target to $123 on cloud margin pressure
