About the job
- A high school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) credential is required.
- At least two years of experience working with people is required.
- The ability to function as a team member is required.
- Excellent communication, listening, reading, and writing skills are required.
- Pennsylvania Child Protective Services Law clearances are required: Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance, Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check, and Pennsylvania Department of Human Services Criminal Record/Fingerprint Check.
- Completion of Pennsylvania-approved Child Abuse Recognition and Reporting Training is required before employment.
- The employee must understand and support The Salvation Army's mission.
- Ensure the safety and security of emergency shelter and permanent housing program guests.
- Track the entry and exit of all guests and visitors.
- Maintain shelter conditions and enforce shelter rules and regulations.
- Perform general office, clerical, and telephone work.
- Complete guest intakes and exits.
- Clean and prepare guest rooms.
- Prepare meals as needed and assist the cook with meal preparation, cleanup, and menu planning when needed.
- Report resident infractions and concerns to the Director or Caseworker.
- Provide front-desk coverage and security.
- Distribute daily mail to guests.
- Complete meal logs for guests who eat at the shelter.
- Arrive on time for scheduled shifts and follow call-off procedures.
- Be available to cover shifts as needed, including holidays and staff absences.
- Orient and train newly hired monitors.
- Complete daily shelter chores and assigned tasks.
- Read and update the daily logbook, documenting important events and needed supplies.
- Answer telephone calls, take accurate messages, and forward them to the appropriate individual.
- A college degree and human service experience are preferred.
