Requirements
- Graduate from an accredited Practical Nurse program.
- For the LPN II level, have at least six months of patient care experience.
- Hold a current South Carolina Licensed Practical Nurse license or a compact-state license.
- Hold current American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification or American Red Cross Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification.
- Be able to perform the required physical duties, including standing, walking, sitting, bending, kneeling, climbing stairs, reaching, repetitive hand and arm motions, and lifting or carrying objects weighing approximately 50 pounds unassisted.
- Be physically qualified for respirator use and maintain 20/40 corrected vision.
- Work in a latex-safe indoor environment.
Responsibilities
- Calibrate, clean, and perform scheduled maintenance of clinical and laboratory equipment as required by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control, and University Medical Associates, with the work tracked by documentation.
- Maintain and review patient records, charts, and other pertinent information, and document test and examination results.
- Communicate the plan of care to patients and develop formal patient education materials when necessary.
- Maintain examination-room supplies, instruments, and cleanliness of the patient-care environment.
- Maintain timely patient flow and assist with scheduling appointments and referrals based on urgency and availability.
- Screen patients for appropriate information and provide patient education for diagnoses and treatments.
- Observe, record, and report patients' physical and psychosocial conditions and their reactions to medications and treatments to the physician.
- Respond to and triage telephone calls, and call in orders as directed by the physician.
- Instruct patients regarding treatment and medication as ordered by the physician.
- Monitor and distribute medications, including samples and controlled substances.
- Triage patients and prepare them for physician examinations and procedures.
- Assist with examinations, procedures, and treatments as necessary.
- Instruct patients in the collection of samples and tests.
- Administer prescribed treatments and tests as ordered by the physician.
- Room patients, take vital signs and health histories, document in the electronic medical record, return patient messages, give injections, and assist with minor procedures.
