Requirements
  • Hold either Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer – Adult Echocardiography certification through the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography or Registered Cardiac Sonographer certification through Cardiovascular Credentialing International.
  • Obtain Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Have one year of cardiac sonographer experience.
  • Complete the physical requirements of sitting for extended periods, lifting, pushing, or pulling at least 40 pounds, functioning without lip reading, and maintaining corrected visual acuity for distant and near objects.
  • Work in a clinical setting.
Responsibilities
  • Perform advanced non-invasive cardiac imaging procedures for the Cardiac Laboratories.
  • Perform proper procedure billing and prioritize patient scheduling.
  • Coordinate and prioritize patient scheduling to ensure timely procedure completion.
  • Obtain information before testing, answer patients’ procedure questions, and interact courteously with patients and their families.
  • Perform all non-invasive imaging procedures within established guidelines and timeframes.
  • Notify appropriate medical staff of significant abnormal findings.
  • Document completed procedures in the patient chart for physician review.
  • Calculate and measure cardiovascular structures from procedure data to support physician interpretation and diagnosis.
  • Maintain the orderliness and cleanliness of equipment, procedure rooms, and Cardiac Laboratory work areas.
  • Complete accurate documentation through EPIC to support proper billing.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient and unit information.
  • Provide ongoing performance feedback to Cardiac Sonographer I staff.
  • Participate in education and in-service opportunities to maintain and enhance knowledge.
  • Precept and onboard new sonographers through department orientation, in-service training, and education.
  • Provide a timely preliminary report on each study and review it with the physician.
  • Follow and implement cardiac protocols and policies.
  • Participate in training on cardiac ultrasound techniques and procedures.
