Monzo launches $19/month metal credit card with auto-investing cashback

Monzo has launched Aura, a metal credit card costing £15 monthly that automatically invests cashback as customers spend. The UK digital bank says it's the country's first credit card with auto-investing cashback functionality. Users earn 1% cashback on groceries and 0.5% on other purchases. The cashback can be auto-invested in Monzo investment funds or paid out directly. The card offers perks including Apple TV and Google AI Plus subscriptions, airport lounge access, and fast-track passes, which Monzo values at over £360 annually. Aura has a credit limit up to £15,000. It joins Monzo's existing credit products: Flex Purchase for spreading costs and Flex Build for credit-building. Luke Enock, general manager for borrowing at Monzo, said the card "turns each trip to the shop into investing for the future.

Adclear slashes Monzo approval times by 82%.

Adclear slashes Monzo approval times by 82%. By Cordelia Ravenswood September 11, 2026 Monzo is rolling out its AI-driven marketing compliance platform to all three live markets as it pushes European expansion after securing a full banking licence from the European Central Bank and the Central Bank of Ireland. As the United Kingdom's largest neobank, Monzo is extending its partnership with Adclear to cover every customer-facing channel, from website banners and social-media posts to in-app notifications and outbound email or SMS communications. The rollout also spans the full suite of Monzo products, including current accounts, joint accounts, business accounts and the various savings pots that the bank offers to its diverse user base. AI-embedded checks slash approval time. The bank says the platform, built by Adclear, embeds regulatory checks directly into the creative workflow. Content is analysed in real time and flagged for changes needed to satisfy each jurisdiction's rules. Adclear's AI engine works while copy and design are being drafted, surfacing potential breaches before a piece ever reaches a compliance inbox. Since its debut in the United Kingdom, the tool has cut the approval process by almost 82% and tripled the rate at which first drafts receive clearance. The speed gains translate into a dramatically shorter time-to-market for time-sensitive promotions, allowing Monzo to align offers with real-world events such as pay-day spikes or seasonal interest-rate changes. Legal and risk teams keep final sign-off, supported by a detailed audit trail that records reviews, edits and approvals. The audit trail provides a complete, timestamped record that regulators can inspect, demonstrating that every piece of marketing material has passed through documented compliance checks. "Great marketing earns trust rather than claiming it and everything we put out has to live up to the promises we make to our customers," said Monzo Group CMO AJ Coyne. "It also has to move at the pace we do. That's where Adclear comes in. It means our teams can create boldly and ship fast, knowing compliance is built in from the start rather than bolted on at the end." Coyne also noted that turning compliance into an enabler rather than a bottleneck helps the brand sustain rapid growth without sacrificing consumer confidence. Scaling the platform across Europe. Monzo is now applying the same AI-powered system in Ireland, where it launched in April 2026, and in Spain as part of a pan-European marketing engine. Both markets receive a version of the workflow that has been calibrated to the specific guidance issued by the Irish Central Bank and the Spanish regulator, ensuring that each promotional claim meets local fairness and clarity standards. "Expanding our partnership with Adclear is a huge step in how we scale marketing at Monzo while maintaining the highest standards of compliance," said Adam Little, Marketing Lead EU Expansion. "As we grow into new geographies, we need processes that can keep pace with both regulatory expectations and the unique demands of each market." Little added that the AI allows marketing and compliance teams to collaborate more tightly, cutting the number of manual hand-offs and giving Monzo confidence that every published piece - whether on a website, a social feed, or an in-app banner - is both clear and compliant. Each market brings distinct rules, guidance and approval requirements for financial promotions. The platform supplies a shared workflow configured to the regulatory framework of each geography, enabling consistent group-level governance with local flexibility. This shared workflow also supports the bank's cross-border campaigns, automatically applying the stricter of two jurisdictions' rules when a promotion is intended for both Irish and Spanish audiences. What the speed boost means for marketers. For teams that must churn out content across websites, social media, ads and in-app messages, the AI layer reduces the back-and-forth that traditionally slows campaigns. Faster clearance lets the bank react to market shifts without sacrificing the clarity and fairness required of financial messaging. In practice, this means a campaign that might have lingered for weeks can now move from concept to live in days, allowing promotional offers to reach customers while interest is still high. The accelerated timeline also gives marketers the agility to test multiple creative variants in quick succession, gathering performance data while still operating within a compliant framework. Broader fintech adoption of the technology. Beyond Monzo, the platform is used by several large financial brands, including Lloyds Banking Group, PensionBee, IG Group, Freetrade, Yonder, Trade Nation, ActivTrades and Ocean Finance, as well as two of the world's biggest cryptocurrency exchanges. These organisations rely on the same AI-driven checks to streamline high-volume, regulated marketing output across a wide array of product lines and customer segments. "Marketing teams today are under pressure to produce more content, across more channels, than ever before. As teams expand across jurisdictions, they cannot compromise on regulatory standards," said Doni Hoti, Co-Founder and CEO of Adclear. "Our work with Monzo shows how AI can remove that tension by building compliance directly into the creative process across three markets at once." Hoti added that real-time regulatory review is becoming essential for banks and fintechs that want to compete for customer attention without sacrificing speed, consistency and trust. Adclear's AI also gives legal and compliance teams full auditability, meaning every edit, suggestion and approval is logged for future reference and regulator scrutiny. Monzo now serves more than 15 million customers in the United Kingdom, and the AI-enabled workflow is set to support its growing user base as it adds Ireland and Spain to its roster. The platform's capacity to handle outbound communications - such as direct-mail letters, push notifications and even telephone scripts, ensures that the compliance shield extends beyond digital media into all touchpoints with customers.

Monzo hit by technical outage, disrupting app access for thousands of customers. * Digital banking * 19.08.2026 02:37 pm Monzo has experienced a technical outage that left thousands of customers unable to fully access their accounts through its mobile banking app, with reports of issues beginning shortly after midday. Users attempting to log in were shown a message stating: "We're experiencing issues. We'll let you know when they're resolved." While account balances remained visible, several in-app features were temporarily unavailable, with many customers reporting difficulties sending bank transfers. According to outage tracking platform DownDetector, reports of problems surged just after 12:00 p.m., indicating a widespread disruption affecting Monzo users. A similar spike in outage reports was also recorded for Santander around the same time. Despite the disruption, Monzo said customers could continue using most essential banking services. Card payments, ATM withdrawals, balance checks, account information, card freezing, transfers, and moving money between accounts remained available, although balance and transaction updates could take longer than usual. A Monzo spokesperson confirmed the bank was working to restore normal service as quickly as possible. "We're currently experiencing a technical issue and are working to resolve this as soon as possible. In the meantime, we've moved into our backup system, Monzo Stand-In, and customers can still do most things on their Monzo app, including sending bank transfers and making card payments and ATM withdrawals," the spokesperson said. The bank has not disclosed the cause of the incident, and work to fully restore all app functionality remains ongoing.
