Responsibilities
  • Proactively plan and execute systems to drive positive student behavior and create an academics-focused culture of achievement.
  • Support the Dean of Culture with analysis of student behavior data.
  • Proactively train key constituents in Excel’s behavior systems, including developing and teaching New Staff Orientation lessons, leading workshops during all-staff Summit, supporting Grade Level Team leaders with student orientation, and developing and delivering parent orientation sessions with the school administration team.
  • Empower teachers as managers of student discipline and behavior.
  • Provide feedback to staff members on classroom management during break, lunch, Focus, and instructional time.
  • Build strong relationships with staff members, seek feedback, and provide feedback.
  • Ensure a cycle of communication with teachers following referrals.
  • Maintain a strong, public presence throughout the school day.
  • Plan, oversee, and execute the designated Character Education program, including supporting Grade Level Teams with culture-focused homeroom activities and planning and teaching the 5th Grade Life Skills and 6th Grade Mindsets courses.
  • Enforce the code of conduct and maintain a strong, public presence throughout the school day.
  • Oversee school-wide intervention and incentive programs, including student groups, the positive PREP Program, the Daily Detention Program, and the Friday Extension Program.
  • Investigate student behavior reports and incidents, determine appropriate responses and consequences with the Dean, and communicate with parents about disciplinary issues.
  • With direct support from the Dean, oversee and execute ICR procedures, including apology and reentry protocols.
  • Communicate promptly with staff regarding students’ status in investigations, referrals, suspensions, and re-entry.
  • Manage daily attendance and uniform referrals.
  • Manage Dean’s office traffic from 7:30 to 8:20 a.m., including processing uniform referrals and late students.
  • Communicate timely student updates to staff.
  • Monitor attendance of frequently absent students and provide regular updates to administrators.
  • Administer consequences for repeated tardiness.
  • Communicate with families and create attendance contracts as needed.
  • Serve as a member of the Student Support team.
  • Develop, execute, and oversee individualized student interventions and supports with student advisors.
  • Support the Dean of Student in driving accountability for student support systems and communication expectations.
  • Participate in generating and upholding Excel Staff norms.
  • Provide coverage when needed.
  • Follow the appropriate protocol when absent to request coverage.
  • Serve as a member of a Grade Level Team and homeroom team.
  • Meaningfully participate in Friday meetings, school professional development, and family conferences.

  • A minimum of two years teaching experience in an urban public school or charter school setting.
  • The ability to speak Spanish.
  • Measurable evidence of driving student achievement gains.
