About the company

Enbridge builds and operates energy infrastructure in North America, focusing on the transportation, distribution, and generation of energy. It runs a vast network of pipelines that move crude oil and natural gas from production sites to refineries and customers, and it also generates renewable energy from wind and solar projects. The company earns money mainly through long-term fees charged for transporting and distributing energy, with additional income from its renewable assets and related services. Compared with peers, Enbridge combines a large, integrated pipeline network with a growing portfolio of renewable generation, underpinned by long-term contracts that provide predictable revenue. Its commitments to safety and sustainability, including a goal to reach net-zero emissions by 2050, guide its operations and corporate strategy. Overall, Enbridge aims to keep energy flowing safely and reliably while supporting the transition to cleaner energy.

Retirees swap Social Security for 5 dividend stocks yielding up to 6.64%

Retirees looking for income beyond Social Security are turning to dividend stocks. The 2027 cost-of-living adjustment is tracking toward 3.3%, and five companies from different industries were screened for dividend safety first, then yield. Verizon yields 6.64% and Altria 6.17%. Verizon's free cash flow guidance of $21.94 billion to $22.14 billion covers its roughly $11.76 billion annual dividend. Altria's payout is about 79% of the low end of its 2026 earnings guidance. Realty Income pays monthly at a 5.99% yield and has raised its dividend 115 consecutive quarters. Enbridge yields 5.95%. AbbVie yields 2.48%, but its quarterly dividend has grown from $0.40 in 2013 to $1.73 in 2026. Risks include satellite competition for Verizon, falling cigarette volumes for Altria, and currency swings for Enbridge.

Enbridge revenue nearly doubled, but it's a gross-up as commodity costs rose in step

Enbridge's revenue nearly doubled in the quarter ended in June, while earnings fell by a third. Neither figure reflects the business, the report says. Commodity sales drove the revenue rise, but commodity costs climbed by almost the same amount. Only 10.16% of revenue reached operating profit. The earnings drop came from other income, which swung from a sizeable gain to a small expense. The change was mostly unrealised derivative value shifts, not cash. Interest expense rose 18.10%, and 162.98% of equity is borrowed. The shares closed at $48.10 on October 16, 18% below their high. They trade at 20.37 times expected earnings and yield 5.82%. Hedge fund holders fell to 31 from 37, with a combined stake of about $3.30 billion.

Wisconsin DNR issues violation notice to Enbridge over 41-mile Line 5 reroute construction.

Wisconsin DNR issues violation notice to Enbridge over 41-mile Line 5 reroute construction. October 17, 2026 Wisconsin regulators issued Enbridge a notice of violation over Line 5 reroute construction, alleging multiple breaches of state environmental laws, according to Clean Wisconsin. (UI) - The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has issued a notice of violation to Enbridge over construction of the company's Line 5 oil pipeline reroute through northern Wisconsin, according to environmental group Clean Wisconsin. The notice reportedly identifies multiple alleged violations of state environmental laws protecting air, water and wildlife. The reroute project has drawn scrutiny over potential impacts to wetlands and waterways, water quality and inadvertent drilling fluid releases, known as frac-outs. Clean Wisconsin attorney Evan Feinauer said the allegations warrant enforcement action and argued that construction-related environmental risks should have been addressed during the permitting process. Clean Wisconsin also cited previous environmental enforcement actions against Enbridge in Wisconsin, including a $275,000 fine related to a 2019 oil spill in Jefferson County and a $1.1 million settlement involving more than 100 alleged wetland and waterways violations during pipeline construction in 2008. The DNR's specific findings, any required corrective actions and potential penalties were not detailed in Clean Wisconsin's announcement. The latest notice adds to regulatory and legal scrutiny of the Line 5 reroute, which has faced challenges over its potential environmental impacts.
