Requirements
  • A university or college degree in electronics, electrical, computer, systems, or a related field.
  • A minimum of five years of technical experience in integrated security systems, intrusion alarms, fire alarms, or a related industry.
  • Working knowledge of testing apparatus, verification methods, and techniques used in the fire and intrusion alarm industry.
  • Knowledge of ULC Standards 1001, 301, 302, 536, 537, and 561.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare technical reports, documentation, and associated materials for certification evaluations.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and French.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time; occasional use of a personal vehicle for business travel may be required and reimbursed.
Responsibilities
  • Conduct field audits and service tests of intrusion and fire alarm systems to verify compliance with ULC and other applicable requirements, and record results on appropriate ULC forms.
  • Conduct annual audits to verify system performance, monitoring-device arrangements, circuit continuity, control-unit wiring, and other security elements against certificate specifications; prepare findings reports and follow up on corrective actions.
  • Conduct certification evaluations by examining equipment, verifying component compatibility, and confirming compliance with applicable standards; prepare reports, correspondence, and related documentation.
  • Communicate with customers to schedule appointments, discuss ULC certification-compliance requirements, and explain field-audit results.
  • Provide information to authorities having jurisdiction and other external bodies as required, and assist with public education on intrusion and fire alarm safety.
  • Conduct annual audits and certification evaluations of signal receiving centre facilities, including equipment, standby power, installation techniques, services, and buildings, for compliance with applicable UL/ULC standards.
  • Read and interpret equipment installation literature, wiring diagrams, and building blueprints to verify compliance with ULC installation, operation, and maintenance requirements.
  • Develop and manage the annual work schedule, including customer appointments, file reviews, certificate selection, and travel arrangements.
  • Conduct facility consultations by reviewing building plans and performing site audits to evaluate construction materials, electrical systems, utilities, security, signal processing, and administrative systems.
  • Analyze prior-year audit reports to verify continued conformance with applicable requirements.
  • Perform other duties as directed.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience in the design, security, equipment, and operation of signal receiving centre facilities.
  • CFAA Fire Alarm Technician certification and/or ECAO certification.

UL Solutions opens automotive EMC laboratory in Japan's Toyota City

UL Solutions has opened a new automotive electromagnetic compatibility laboratory in Toyota City, Japan, beginning operations on 1 July. The 2,323-square-metre facility will provide EMC testing to help manufacturers protect vehicles from interference affecting critical systems like braking and steering. The Automotive Technology and Innovation Centre is among few EMC laboratories in Japan equipped for high-voltage, high-current, high-torque and high-speed rotational testing. Its chambers can handle up to 25,000 RPM and power supplies delivering up to 1,500 volts and 1,000 amps. Located in Japan's Tokai region, the facility strengthens UL Solutions' global EMC testing network and supports automakers in the world's third-largest vehicle market, which produced over 8 million vehicles in 2025.
