Requirements
  • Must have graduated from an approved Medical Assistant Certified program and have a current Medical Assistant Certified license issued by the Washington State Department of Health.

  • Must possess problem-solving abilities and perform each essential duty diligently, accurately, and timely.

  • Must be able to calculate medical dosages, such as milligrams to milliliters.

  • Must be computer literate and proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Must learn and become proficient in SharePoint, Arcadia, OneHealth Portal, HealthPlanFinder, electronic health records, EKG monitors, retinal cameras, and other technical resources as needed.
  • Must become fully proficient with Sea Mar's patient management and electronic health records systems before the end of the probationary period.
  • Must have a Certificate of Completion from a Medical Assistant program.
  • Must be Medical Assistant-Certified or possess an MA-Interim License and pass the examination within the 90-day probationary period.
  • Must obtain Basic Life Support CPR within 90 days of hire and maintain current certification throughout employment.
  • Must adhere to the Sea Mar Employee Health Screening Policy, including pre-hire and annual screening.
  • Must receive the annual influenza vaccine unless an approved medical or religious exemption applies.
  • Must maintain patient confidentiality and comply with all HIPAA regulations.
  • Must be able to meet the physical requirements, including standing, walking, using hands, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Must follow medical, nursing, health and safety, personnel, infection-control, and organizational policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
  • Track and document all patient clinical quality measures and outcomes through thorough electronic health record reviews.
  • See approximately 18 to 21 patients per day with an assigned provider and reach out to patients with care gaps.
  • Coordinate and process internal and external patient referrals according to established protocols.
  • Collaborate with providers, care coordinators, integration specialists, health educators, dieticians, behavioral health specialists, and care management staff.
  • Prepare for and participate in care-team huddles, including collecting clinic forms, quality measures, laboratory and X-ray reports, medication confirmations, and other visit information.
  • Prepare patients for visits by obtaining subjective information and vital signs.
  • Document relevant patient information, care provided, and care processes according to Sea Mar protocols.
  • Prepare examination and procedure rooms by stocking supplies and disinfecting them according to protocol.
  • Administer intramuscular, subcutaneous, and intradermal injections, as well as oral, rectal, and inhaled medications ordered by the provider.
  • Document medication administration and maintain and reconcile medication and immunization lists.
  • Assist providers with gynecological examinations, incision and drainage procedures, and other minor procedures.
  • Perform quality-improvement audits, participate in organizational committees, and provide shadowing opportunities for new staff.
  • Report abnormal vital signs to the provider immediately.
  • Use aseptic technique and ensure infection-control and standard precautions are followed.
  • Assist with ordering department supplies.
  • Assist Nursing and Medical Assistant Supervisors with implementing pod and patient-flow systems to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Obtain laboratory tests and results and obtain patient notes and records from hospitals and other provider offices.
  • Provide patients with referral information and send required laboratory results and electronic health record notes to specialist offices.
  • Use AIDET customer-service practices and escort patients to and from treatment rooms.
  • Resolve referred clinical phone calls within one business day and communicate provider or patient-flow delays professionally.
  • Manage biohazardous waste and assist with pharmacy requests.
  • Perform nursing functions in electronic health record and practice-management applications.
  • Demonstrate compliance with Joint Commission, National Patient Safety Goals, Department of Health, Clinical Quality Measures, Patient-Centered Medical Home, quality-improvement, and contractual requirements.
  • Perform scribing duties when assigned.
  • Attend regular staff meetings and in-service training.
  • Close chart notes within 24 hours of service and support Follow My Health enrollment.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor.
Desired Qualifications
  • Bilingual English/Spanish ability is strongly desired.
  • Ambulatory care experience is preferred.
  • Previous experience in Family Medicine is preferred.
  • Ability to speak and interpret in Spanish is preferred.
