About the Job

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in machine learning engineering or applied research, including significant hands-on experience training large models, especially large language models.
  • Strong practical knowledge of transformer internals and modern variations, including mixture-of-experts architectures, routing, load balancing, attention variants, normalization choices, and long-context strategies.
  • Demonstrated experience with domain-adaptive or continued pretraining, supervised fine-tuning, and reinforcement-learning-based post-training, including reward modeling, preference datasets, verifiable rewards, and policy optimization.
  • Ability to reason about why post-training methods work and when they fail.
  • Strong understanding of data science fundamentals, including exploratory data analysis, dataset design, bias and contamination, sampling strategies, and error analysis.
  • Ability to identify root causes and debug training instabilities and performance regressions, including numerical, data, infrastructure bottleneck, and configuration-drift issues.
  • Expert-level Python programming and strong software engineering fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, and systems thinking.
  • Experience with PyTorch, distributed training frameworks such as FSDP, DeepSpeed, or ZeRO, and training orchestration.
  • Familiarity with large-language-model operations, including experiment tracking, dataset versioning, reproducibility, deployment constraints, and model behavior monitoring.
  • Comfort building agentic pipelines around large language models, including evaluation agents, data-generation and labeling loops, model-in-the-loop distillation, and automated red-teaming.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the team of AI engineers and researchers.
  • Train and iterate on large language models end-to-end across domain-adaptive or continued pretraining, supervised fine-tuning, and reinforcement-learning-based post-training, including preference optimization, reward modeling, verifiable rewards, policy optimization, and related methods.
  • Design training recipes covering tokenization strategy, curriculum and sampling, batch and sequence packing, optimizer and scheduler choices, stability techniques, and hyperparameter search.
  • Architect and implement efficient training systems using distributed training approaches such as data, tensor, and pipeline parallelism; FSDP or ZeRO; activation checkpointing; mixed precision; and throughput optimization.
  • Develop and maintain large-language-model data pipelines for large-scale ingestion, filtering, deduplication, contamination checks, domain balancing, safety filtering, and dataset versioning.
  • Perform exploratory data analysis and root-cause analysis for training or evaluation regressions, including loss spikes, instability, alignment drift, memorization, toxicity, and domain overfitting, and implement mitigations.
  • Build evaluation and benchmarking suites, including offline metrics, human-preference pipelines, automatic evaluations, domain-specific test sets, adversarial probing, and model behavior tracking over time.
  • Apply and advance model compression and efficiency methods, including distillation from large language models, quantization-aware considerations, pruning and sparsity (including mixture-of-experts routing behavior), and inference-time optimization tradeoffs.
  • Implement and operationalize large-language-model operations, including experiment tracking, reproducible runs, model registry, training telemetry, artifact management, continuous integration for training configurations, and safe rollout strategies.
  • Use AI coding tools such as Cursor or Copilot to accelerate development while maintaining engineering rigor, testability, and code review standards.
  • Collaborate with platform, infrastructure, and product teams to integrate trained models into agentic and production pipelines involving retrieval, tool use, evaluation gates, and monitoring.
  • Stay current with the field and translate new architectures, post-training methods, data strategies, and evaluation approaches into internal experiments and improvements.

Desired Qualifications

  • Publications, open-source contributions, or demonstrated leadership in shipping large-language-model training improvements.
