About the job

Requirements
  • At least 10 years of hands-on experience owning analog/mixed-signal integrated circuit designs, including multiple tapeouts carried through to silicon validation.
  • Lead the architecture or analog specification of at least one chip from concept through silicon.
  • Deep transistor-level expertise in low-noise and/or ultra-low-power precision analog design.
  • A reliability-first design approach covering electrostatic discharge, device breakdown and safe operating area, aging, and yield.
  • Fluency in the Cadence Virtuoso/Spectre flow and a Linux-based, scripted, version-controlled design environment.
  • A bachelor's, master's, or doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
Responsibilities
  • Own chip-level architecture by turning system requirements and the existing architecture concept into a written, reviewable design specification and implementation plan.
  • Document design choices, tradeoffs, and verification results continuously as first-class deliverables.
  • Personally design the most critical low-noise, ultra-low-power analog and mixed-signal blocks for an implantable device, such as neural recording front ends, analog-to-digital converters, bandgap references, clocks, and power management, and direct the design of the remaining blocks across the team and partners.
  • Run pre- and post-layout simulation, corner and Monte Carlo analysis, and safe-operating-area, reliability, and aging checks appropriate for a long-life implant.
  • Build behavioral models using Verilog-A/AMS and SystemVerilog to support top-level and mixed-signal verification.
  • Drive process, foundry, intellectual property, and vendor decisions, including foundry, layout, OSAT/packaging, and test services.
  • Lead design reviews, mentor engineers, and set documentation and design-reproducibility standards for the team.
  • Work closely with layout, digital, system, and test engineers, and own post-silicon bring-up and debugging in the lab.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience in ASIC design for biomedical, implantable, or neural-interface applications.
  • High-voltage or specialty process experience, such as BCD or SOI.
  • Experience working directly with foundries and OSATs, including process selection and packaging decisions.
  • Familiarity with medical-device development under design controls, such as ISO 13485 or FDA QMSR, or active-implant standards such as ISO 14708.
  • Experience with open-source integrated circuit tools or flows.
  • Prior experience at an early-stage company or as a first or senior analog hire.

About the company

Epia Neuro develops neural technologies to restore function for people with neurological conditions, focusing on post-stroke motor impairment. Its lead platform uses a minimally invasive skull-placed read/write brain–computer interface paired with AI-powered software to translate neural intent into action, fusing neural signals with data from external sensors to drive assistive devices like a grip-assist glove. The system is implanted in under an hour, is wirelessly rechargeable, and modular to allow future upgrades without additional surgery, offering an integrated hardware and software solution. The company aims to restore daily independence for stroke survivors and expand to cognitive decline and other neurological disorders, targeting a multi-billion-dollar market.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • April 2, 2026 launch targeted stroke and cognitive decline, broadening eventual revenue.
  • Astellas-backed iota heritage reduces technical novelty risk and speeds development.
  • Wirelessly rechargeable, modular hardware supports upgrades without repeat surgery, improving patient and payer economics.

What critics are saying

  • First-human demos later in 2026 leave no human efficacy data today.
  • February 2027 FDA submission demands flawless safety; one adverse event kills momentum.
  • Neuralink, Synchron, and Blackrock outspend Epia, risking talent, capital, and clinician attention.

What makes Epia Neuro unique

  • Michel Maharbiz's iota lineage gives Epia proven ultrasonic implant know-how.
  • April 2026 launch centers on a less-invasive, under-an-hour cranial implant.
  • Lenox Hill Hospital ties give Epia a credible first-human clinical pathway.
