FARO Insight puts workflow first with new Focus and Rovi releases.

FARO Insight puts workflow first with new Focus and Rovi releases. October 7, 2026 FARO Insight has introduced two new terrestrial laser scanners, the Focus i.1 and Focus i.1 X, along with Rovi i.1, an entry-level mobile reality capture package. The launches were timed for Intergeo in Munich and Autodesk University in Las Vegas. FARO Insight is the new name for FARO's reality capture business. It was created in January 2026 when AMETEK, which acquired FARO Technologies in 2025, reorganized the company into two units: one for industrial metrology and one for reality capture. The Focus scanners, SCENE and FARO Sphere XG now sit under FARO Insight, which is headquartered in Korntal-Münchingen, Germany. Faster from field to point cloud. For surveyors, the most interesting of the new models is the Focus i.1 X. It has a mountable GNSS/RTK receiver and a scanning range of 400 metres, so scans can be georeferenced in the field rather than tied in to control afterwards. Both new scanners also have upgraded hardware, faster colourized scanning, better positioning technology and object scanning accuracy of up to 0.9mm. "Reality capture projects are often a balance between speed, accuracy and ease of use throughout the scanning process," said Dietmar Wennemer, business unit manager at FARO Insight. "What stands out about the new Focus scanners is how they address all three." He said the changes were driven by users who wanted faster workflows, more confidence in their data and tools that fit more easily into the way they already work. The launch also changes how FARO software is sold. Sphere XG, FARO's cloud collaboration platform, and SCENE, its desktop processing software with AI-based data cleaning, are now offered through a new subscription model. A major update, SCENE 2027, is on the way. FARO says it will cut point cloud generation on large projects from hours to minutes and add an AI filter that removes reflections from glass and mirrors, a common source of noise in scans of interiors and façades. Mobile capture and connected workflows. Rovi i.1 is aimed at a broader and more cost-conscious market. Developed with 3D spatial intelligence company Manifold Tech Limited, it bundles a mobile scanner with a software subscription, with data processed in Sphere XG and analysed in SCENE. Tobias Böhret, director, product solutions at FARO Insight, said customers had asked for a complete workflow that connects hardware and software rather than a standalone capture device. "Rovi i.1 brings these elements together in a complete package, supporting the customer journey from everyday capture to actionable reality data," he said. FARO Insight also announced several integrations with other platforms. A new cloud-to-cloud link with Flyability's Inspector Online lets point clouds captured by Elios 3 inspection drones move directly to the FARO platform. Later additions to Sphere XG include IPX (Integrated Projects), a scan-to-BIM service that lets customers order as-built BIM models from their point clouds without leaving the platform, and an integration with Qbitec, expected later in 2026. "The future of reality capture is not defined by capture alone, but by how effectively data becomes trusted insight," Wennemer said. Value staying current with geomatics? FARO CREAFORM brings handheld 3D scanner compatibility & casting inspection to CAM2(R).

FARO CREAFORM brings handheld 3D scanner compatibility & casting inspection to CAM2(R). September 16, 2026 Bengaluru. FARO CREAFORM, a business of AMETEK, Inc. and global provider of 3D scanning and portable CMM solutions, on September 16 announced the launch of new casting inspection enhancements for its CAM2(R) software platform. Designed as a workflow-driven inspection tool that enables manufacturers and quality teams to perform dimensional inspections against 2D drawings and 3D CAD models, including GD&T analysis, the latest release expands its compatibility with FaroArm portable CMMs and Vantage Laser Trackers, by adding FARO CREAFORM handheld 3D scanners. These improvements allow users to combine advanced scanning and inspection technologies within a unified ecosystem - all with the ability to automate repeat inspection workflows and generate comprehensive inspection reports - and is ideal for manufacturers across industries including automotive, aerospace, heavy equipment, energy, and general manufacturing. The enhancements address manufacturers' need to verify material in critical casting areas before costly machining begins. CAM2's latest advancements address this issue by enabling users to digitally position, analyse, and validate castings, helping reduce scrap, prevent machining failures, and support faster, data-driven decision-making. "Manufacturers require actionable inspection data early in the production process, when decisions have the greatest impact on quality and cost," said Thorsten Brecht, Vice-President - Innovation Applied Solutions & CX at FARO CREAFORM. "These new CAM2 capabilities help teams know before they machine, giving them the confidence to validate castings, reduce rework, and improve production outcomes." Beyond its expanded hardware compatibility, the three main improvements include: a new Smart Alignment workflow featuring Advanced Best Fit Alignment and material distribution optimisation, Enhanced Colour Mapping tools, and Cross-section analysis. Smart Alignment helps users position scan data against CAD models more quickly and accurately, even when inspecting complex castings. This provides greater confidence before machining begins and helps reduce costly downstream corrections. Enhanced colour mapping tools make inspection results easier to visualise, compare, and share across teams, while new cross-section analysis capabilities allow critical internal features to be evaluated virtually. Together, these enhancements simplify the inspection process from validation through reporting, helping manufacturers make faster decisions, improve machining readiness, and support more consistent production outcomes. "The combination of advanced casting inspection capabilities and handheld 3D scanner compatibility gives customers more versatility in how they capture and analyse measurement data," added Francois Lachance, Manager of Software Product Manager at FARO CREAFORM. "By bringing scanning and inspection closer together, we are helping manufacturers streamline quality processes while maintaining full traceability and reporting confidence." With headquarters in Lévis, Québec, Canada and Lake Mary, Florida, USA, FARO CREAFORM is the result of the combination of FARO's renowned 3D Measurement business segment and Creaform's innovative metrology solutions. With roots dating back to 1981, FARO has been a global leader in portable measurement arms, laser trackers, and reality capture technologies. Creaform, founded in 2002 in Lévis, Québec, has revolutionised handheld 3D scanning and automated inspection, serving thousands of professionals in automotive, aerospace, manufacturing, and research. Together, FARO CREAFORM empowers quality, production, maintenance and design teams to work faster, smarter, and with total confidence, unlocking better outcomes and superior experiences across manufacturing workflows. FARO CREAFORM is a business unit of AMETEK, Inc., a leading global provider of industrial technology solutions serving a diverse set of attractive niche markets.
