The Role
Are you the type of writer who’s obsessive about finding the best deals on the internet? Do you find joy in sharing products that’ll change people’s lives for the better, whether it’s in big or little ways? And do you have affiliate experience and a passion for analyzing data to figure out how to grow an audience? HuffPost is looking for a Shopping Writer to join our growing team.
A Writer on HuffPost Shopping should be an experienced and conversational writer with proven skills in consumer- and shopping-related or other lifestyle content, with a willingness to learn and implement revenue-generating best practices. They should be committed to finding daily deals and writing a variety of story formats that generate earnings, minimizing the work readers need to do to find products and services that will help them lead better lives. At HuffPost Shopping we build our stories on expert sourcing, trustworthy reviews, smart reporting, brand discovery, and data analytics.
You Will
- Writing and reporting shareable, unique stories about products as well as SEO-friendly shopping guides and reviews
- Regularly tapping into topics that are compelling, sharable and representative of the zeitgeist – your finger should be on the pulse of today’s culture and the online conversation, and you’re able and willing to translate that into shoppable stories
- Filing draft copy that is clean, properly sourced, clearly laid out and properly formatted according to HuffPost’s style guide and standards
- Strategically pitching and writing shopping stories on a deadline that will maximize audience engagement and revenue
- Conducting daily searches for sales and regularly writing sale stories for the top deals relevant to our audience
- Communicating with the team via Slack throughout the day, pitching and responding to assignments quickly
- Researching products and brands in various categories and price points that are of interest to the HuffPost audience. Writers should always be increasing their awareness of revenue and the brands that perform well for us.
- Tracking and analyzing your posts’ traffic and affiliate analytics in order to strategically pitch new ideas
- Producing syndicated stories on a weekly basis
- Working irregular shifts for big sales and events (Prime Day, Black Friday, etc.)

You Have
- At least 2-4 years of shopping / eCommerce writing experience OR equivalent experience producing other consumer-focused service journalism
- Working knowledge of affiliate data and networks, as well as search optimization
- A strong passion for finding great deals, and knowing how to use the tools and data that weed out bad deals
- Strong knowledge and interest in the following areas: Tech, gadgets, style, beauty, wellness, fitness, food, health, work, travel, home, pets and parenting
- Demonstrated interest in and broad knowledge base of online shopping, retailers, strategies, deals and e-commerce
- Excellent headline and packaging skills and a willingness to learn from the audience development team about what works for the audience
- Firm understanding of the audience and voice of HuffPost or similar general-interest publication
- Able to work at a fast pace, deliver work on tight deadlines, and contribute to a goal-oriented team.
- You should be able to produce at least one original story a day; you should be able to produce stories at a pace and a level that is in alignment with the team’s goals and in consultation with your manager.
