Requirements
- An active Registered Nurse license is required.
- A Bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited institution is required.
- A Master's degree in Business, Healthcare, Finance, or Nursing is preferred.
- Basic Life Support certification is required; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification is preferred depending on the specialty area.
- Specialty nursing certification is preferred.
- Wound care certification such as WCC, WOCN, CWON, CWCN, or equivalent is preferred.
- Demonstrated leadership, mentoring, organizational, and problem-solving abilities are required.
- The ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing is required.
- Experience leading customer relations, finance and productivity management, continuous quality improvement, personnel staffing and development, and departmental activities is required.
Responsibilities
- Manage the clinical, operational, and financial activities within the department.
- Provide oversight and operational support for the coordination and delivery of patient care across all hours, including patient flow, staffing, overtime, budget, and productivity management.
- Oversee outpatient wound clinic operations and inpatient wound care consult services.
- Implement evidence-based wound care practices across care settings and collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams on wound assessments, treatment planning, patient education, and care transitions.
- Monitor wound healing outcomes, pressure injury prevention, infection prevention practices, and program performance.
- Develop, implement, and manage annual operating, capital, and staffing budgets.
- Oversee wound care supplies, equipment, advanced treatment modalities, and hyperbaric resources as applicable.
- Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency, optimize reimbursement, and support service line growth.
- Conduct introductory and annual performance evaluations and maintain individual development plans.
- Participate in recruitment and separation decisions, provide clinical and behavioral coaching, and apply progressive disciplinary practices.
- Promote professional development and ensure staff maintain required certifications, competencies, and continuing education.
- Evaluate patient experience and implement action plans to improve satisfaction.
- Provide patient and family education, engagement, and self-management support related to wound prevention and treatment.
- Participate in wound care service line development, referral growth, community outreach, educational programs, and physician engagement activities.
- Maintain compliance with professional practice standards, organizational policies, evidence-based guidelines, regulations, OSHA, The Joint Commission, and other accrediting bodies.
- Lead quality improvement initiatives involving wound healing outcomes, pressure injury prevention, infection prevention, documentation, regulatory compliance, and patient safety.
- Review quality indicators and develop action plans to achieve program goals and benchmark performance.
- Build collaborative relationships with physicians, surgeons, hospitalists, advanced practice providers, rehabilitation specialists, and other clinical partners.
- Lead recruitment, retention, and team engagement efforts and support nursing excellence and staff empowerment.
- Facilitate daily huddles to improve communication and reinforce a culture of safety.
- Promote evidence-based wound care practices, specialty organization participation, certification attainment, and ongoing professional development.
Desired Qualifications
- Knowledge of wound management, pressure injury prevention, skin integrity programs, and hyperbaric medicine is preferred.
- Previous leadership experience within wound care, ambulatory care, acute care, or specialty clinical programs is preferred.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification is preferred depending on the specialty area.
- Specialty nursing certification is preferred.
- Wound care certification such as WCC, WOCN, CWON, CWCN, or equivalent is preferred.
