Requirements
  • A Master's degree with at least 18 graduate hours in the teaching discipline.

  • Ability to oversee all aspects of the department, related curricula, and degree programs.
  • Excellent written and oral interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, and administrators.

  • A passion for mentoring and preparing future educators to engage with students of diverse backgrounds and abilities.
Responsibilities
  • Teach a 5-5 course load for the Assistant/Associate Professor role, or a reduced course load such as 4-4 for the Department Chair role, in traditional in-person, blended hybrid, and online formats using the established learning management system.
  • Advise and mentor students.
  • Recruit and retain students to the major.
  • Maintain student records and related department data.
  • Abide by College policies and procedures.
  • Participate in official College ceremonies and events.
  • Collaborate to develop and assess program and student learning outcomes.
  • Serve actively on College-wide committees.
  • Review and revise department catalog content collaboratively.
  • Maintain a professional disposition.
  • Meet established deadlines.
  • Utilize and remain current with the College's instructional technologies.
  • Liaise between students and the department chair, faculty, and leadership as applicable.
  • Maintain an active research agenda.
  • Recruit, supervise, and evaluate faculty within the chair's purview.
  • Engage faculty in shared governance.
  • Monitor academic advising and registration.
  • Facilitate graduation application submissions.
  • Recommend faculty schedules and course offerings each semester.
  • Facilitate the creation of robust and relevant curricula.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Doctor of Philosophy or equivalent terminal degree in English, literature, or a closely related field; ABD candidates with a scheduled defense date will be considered.
  • A record of professional performance and/or scholarly achievement.
  • Experience recruiting and retaining majors.
  • Evidence of program creation.
  • At least three years of successful teaching experience at the college or university level.
