Maryland issues no temporary permit; recent nursing-school graduation must be documented and a permanent RN license obtained within 90 days of graduation. Ohio nurses must be currently licensed. Pennsylvania nurses must hold a current Pennsylvania Registered Nurse Temporary Permit and obtain a permanent license before the temporary permit expires. West Virginia nurses must hold a current West Virginia Registered Nurse Graduate Permit and obtain a permanent license before the permit expires. • Obtain Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Demonstrate novice-level clinical knowledge and skills needed to provide age-appropriate patient care and assess and interpret patient data.
  • Meet the physical demands of heavy/hard work, including lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, and carrying materials and equipment weighing 40 pounds or more; use lift equipment or other patient-handling aids as indicated by the patient profile and applicable algorithms.
  • Work closely with others, work irregular or extended hours, and work around biohazards, infectious diseases, deceased persons, water, and electrical hazards associated with patient-care equipment.
Responsibilities

  • Assume responsibility and accountability for patient care and use authority appropriately.

  • Make appropriate clinical decisions and use expert peers or management when applicable.
  • Initiate actions to correct, reduce, or prevent commonly occurring risks to patient health status.
  • Provide coordinated, comprehensive patient care through assessment, expected outcomes, nursing interventions, and evaluation within an interdisciplinary team.
  • Negotiate patient-care tasks with patients and families within safe-practice guidelines; delegate tasks to assigned personnel and follow up on completion and patient response.
  • Use standards of care and practice, scientific principles, research findings, and relevant resources to guide decisions and care delivery; seek assistance when unable to perform safely and independently.
  • Evaluate patient response to performed and delegated tasks, including Patient Profile Assessment for safe patient handling and mobility.
  • Set and revise direct and indirect patient-care priorities based on patient acuity and available resources, and update daily care plans with appropriate safe-patient-handling algorithms.
  • Use established patient-care support systems for documentation, communication, and information.
  • Support the development of others, mentor and network to promote professional development, and integrate staff and students into the health-care team.
  • Promote trusting relationships and open, honest communication at the unit level; exchange information relevant to patient assignments and interact with health-care team members to meet patient-care needs.
  • Participate in performance-improvement activities as appropriate.
  • Complete annual education related to specialty accreditation requirements at applicable facilities, through computer-based learning, training, in-services, or competency validation.
Desired Qualifications
