Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • Fiscal 2026 revenue rose 40% to $1.518 billion, with Q4 up 52.5%.
  • Management guided Q1 fiscal 2027 revenue to $450 million-$460 million, above Q4.
  • EU SHIELD-6G funding and TeraVM work deepen VIAVI's security role in 6G testing.

What critics are saying

  • January 2026 restructuring cuts 5% of staff, signaling integration strain and margin pressure.
  • VIAVI still depends on telecom capital spending, where carrier delays can hit orders quickly.
  • If AI and wireless demand cool after 2027, Spirent-driven growth loses its valuation support.

What makes Viavi Solutions unique

  • VIAVI owns 3,400-plus patents and testing gear across network, optical, and security markets.
  • Spirent integration broadened VIAVI into high-speed Ethernet, network security, and channel emulation.
  • Vertex 6.0 and PCIe 6.0 compliance position VIAVI in 6G and AI infrastructure.

Merck's strong 21.5% cash flow margin contrasts with Allegro and Viavi's struggles

StockStory analysed three cash-producing stocks, recommending investors avoid two while highlighting one with stronger prospects. Allegro MicroSystems faces end-market challenges, with flat sales over two years and operating margin falling to 2% over five years. The power management chip designer trades at 37.6x forward P/E. Viavi Solutions showed weak performance with 3.4% annual growth over five years, whilst earnings per share remained flat despite revenue growth. The telecommunications testing company trades at 26.2x forward P/E. Merck emerged as the recommended stock, boasting a 21.5% trailing 12-month free cash flow margin. The pharmaceutical company's portfolio includes the blockbuster cancer immunotherapy Keytruda. The analysis emphasises that strong cash flow alone doesn't guarantee superior returns without efficient capital allocation.
