Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university in education, English as a Second Language, or a related field is required.
  • Three years of English as a Second Language teaching experience in a public school setting are required.
  • Experience designing and delivering professional learning is required.
  • Extensive knowledge of curriculum and best practices is required.
  • Extensive knowledge of English language development pedagogy and literacy is required.
  • Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and Google Apps is required.
  • The ability to design and deliver professional learning is required.
  • The ability to evaluate professional learning sessions to ensure topics and information are implemented is required.
  • The ability to communicate clearly and concisely in oral and written English and Spanish is required.
  • The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, external funding agency staff, and the community is required.
  • The candidate must hold or be eligible for a North Carolina professional educator's license with licensure in English as a Second Language.
  • The candidate must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license under North Carolina requirements.
Responsibilities
  • Provide supplemental support to English as a Second Language teachers to enhance the quality of instruction and conduct at least one annual school visit to each assigned school.
  • Serve as a liaison between English as a Second Language and other Wake County Public School System departments to determine best practices for teaching English learners and implement equitable-access practices across grade levels and subject areas.
  • Develop and deliver collaborative professional learning opportunities for teachers.
  • Work collaboratively with the English as a Second Language team to design and deliver professional learning for English as a Second Language teachers and content-area teachers.
  • Report progress on efforts to support schools and special projects to the Senior Administrator and Director of English as a Second Language on a regular basis.
  • Establish and maintain communication with other Wake County Public School System departments to inform English-learner instruction and develop curricular supports across grade levels and subject areas.
  • Participate as a partner in middle school district initiatives, as assigned.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
