About the Job

Requirements

  • Demonstrated product ownership in product management, product design, or a closely adjacent role, with a track record of shipping products customers use and clearly identifying individual ownership.
  • Depth in a complex, workflow-heavy, compliance-bound B2B domain, such as financial software, ERP, accounting, or a comparably regulated enterprise domain where errors have consequences beyond subscription churn.
  • Experience conducting customer discovery, synthesizing research, and changing a roadmap or design based on findings, with a specific example.
  • Clear written communication sufficient to align engineering, design, services, and leadership; a writing signal is part of the process.
  • Willingness to build and become proficient with AI-native workflows; arriving as a developer is not required.
  • Ability to make decisions under ambiguity and iterate without waiting for certainty.

Responsibilities

  • Own a defined product domain, its customers, problems, and measurable business outcomes.
  • Set and communicate the domain roadmap based on customer research, competitive context, and business goals; explain decisions and revise the roadmap when facts change.
  • Define and validate end-to-end user experience flows and interaction patterns within the design system, escalating genuinely new system-level patterns when needed.
  • Move from intent to working software in the product repository using AI-native tooling, validate with customers, iterate, and own pull requests through review.
  • Write acceptance criteria precise enough for automated tests to verify and maintain quality throughout the pipeline.
  • Partner with engineering leads and squad engineers to unblock builds and resolve ambiguity.
  • Embed with Professional Services on implementations and migrations, conduct discovery, address gaps between product functionality and customer configuration, and feed findings into the roadmap.
  • Track adoption, usage, go-live health, and business outcomes and use them to drive iteration.
  • Represent the domain in customer conversations, quarterly business reviews, steering committees, and cross-functional reviews.
  • Coordinate directly with adjacent domains on cross-domain customer needs and bring recommendations.
  • Identify gaps in AI harnesses, skills, and design system coverage and raise platform investment requests with a business case.
  • Conduct and synthesize discovery with government finance staff and translate findings into defensible build and cut decisions.
  • Own product delivery from idea through launch, adoption, and iteration, including implementation customer work and on-site bug fixing when required.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in government finance, public sector accounting, or GovTech software-as-a-service, or direct experience as a finance officer, budget analyst, auditor, or controller.
  • Familiarity with fund accounting, chart-of-accounts design, GASB reporting, annual budget cycles, or external audit workflows.
  • Experience with data migration or platform replacement programs, particularly where customer data was the main challenge.
  • Experience with multi-entity or multi-organization data models, consolidated reporting, or component-unit structures.
  • Hands-on experience with AI development tools such as Claude Code or Cursor, and with design systems and component libraries.

About the Company

OpenGov

Cloud-based budgeting, planning, and permitting software

OpenGov provides cloud-based software for local governments, offering tools for strategic budgeting and planning, permitting, licensing, and code enforcement. The product suite runs as software-as-a-service, so agencies subscribe and access the tools over the internet. The budgeting and planning software digitizes financial processes, helps create budgets faster, and uses data analytics to reveal trends and connect strategic initiatives to outcomes. The workflows are designed to replace paper-based tasks with online, centralized systems, improving transparency and public engagement while reducing time and resources spent. OpenGov differentiates itself with deep public-sector experience and a focus on modernizing legacy processes, cyber awareness, and data-driven decision making for local governments. Its goal is to help government leaders run more efficient, transparent, and accountable operations.
