Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • Graduation from a Nursing Assistant Program is required.
  • A current, unrestricted Certified Nursing Assistant or Licensed Nursing Assistant license in Arizona is required.
  • Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association is required.
  • If the employee does not have an Arizona Licensed Nursing Assistant license, a Fingerprint Clearance Card application number is required upon hire and a Fingerprint Clearance Card is required within 90 days of hire.
  • The employee must obtain and maintain appropriate clinical competencies for assigned roles.
  • For the Discharge Patient Care Technician assignment, the employee must be able to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and community agencies in patient care and care management, use the electronic medical record for documentation and communication, understand available community resources, and understand post-discharge resource planning.
  • The employee must understand computers and demonstrate competence using computers and basic software programs.
Responsibilities
  • Maintain department cleanliness, including following cleanup procedures after treatments.
  • Assist patients with transfers, including transfers involving weight-bearing restrictions, motor impairment, or wheelchairs.
  • Assist patients with donning and doffing compression garments.
  • Observe skin integrity and report problem areas to supervising clinicians.
  • Assist with removal of catheters and intravenous lines and perform phlebotomy within the scope of practice.
  • Prioritize and solve problems in response to changes in patient status or condition.
  • Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to support staffing patterns with appropriate skills for quality patient care.
  • Assess patient care needs quickly and accurately.
  • Serve as a resource and assist staff and physicians, including assisting with electronic medical record order entry as needed.
  • Assist with dressing removal as assigned by a supervising clinician.
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living, including toileting.
  • Assist patients with mobility under the direction of a supervising clinician, including therapeutic exercises.
  • Follow safety guidelines for isolation precautions and blood-borne pathogens.
  • Assist discharged patients, coordinate discharge logistics, and help patients use resources and access health-related services.
  • Assist patients in and out of vehicles as needed.
  • Support and reinforce discharge instructions.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and community agencies.
  • Use the electronic medical record for documentation and communication.
  • Assist with securing durable medical equipment as necessary.
  • Answer, evaluate, and prioritize incoming administrative telephone calls; obtain complete and accurate information to determine callers' needs.
  • Assist with orienting and training new Patient Care Technician staff.
  • Maintain unit documents, charts, and chart copies as requested.
  • Assist the charge nurse with clerical duties.
  • Document objective patient data and care provided, including reporting abnormal findings to the supervising clinician.
  • Follow unit standards of care, practice guidelines, administrative policies, and applicable Arizona nursing laws and regulations.
  • Report safety incidents through the Midas/RDE tool, attend required safety training, work safely, and monitor the work environment for safety issues.
  • Comply with applicable state and federal regulations and company policies.
  • Keep required certifications and licenses current when applicable.
  • Complete mandatory company modules and job-specific training within specified time frames.
  • Work on any hospital unit as assigned, change departments during a shift when needed, work as a Patient Safety Attendant when assigned, and take required call shifts for the Float/Flex Pool assignment.
