  • Current CPR certification is required.
  • Completion of a Nurse Practitioner Surgical Residency Program may substitute for the listed minimum requirements.
  • Experience with patient equipment, including vital-sign equipment, suction, and a defibrillator, is required.
  • Surgical assistant skills are required.
Responsibilities
  • Provide general surgical assistant services in the operating room.
  • Assist the surgeon with patient preparation through completion of the procedure.
  • Remove drains, tubes, and catheters.
  • Close incisions.
  • Assist with patient office visits and assume assigned call coverage.
  • Complete charting, summaries, correspondence, and required paperwork to document care and support billing.
  • Participate in employer-provided physician educational programs concerning capitated medicine and implications for physician practice patterns.
  • Participate in establishing quality assurance programs and utilization management programs, selecting management information systems, and developing patient education and patient satisfaction surveys.
  • Assist in developing operational and capital budgets.
  • Participate in operational assessments to identify revenue enhancement, expense reductions, consolidation efficiencies, and billing opportunities.
  • Assist with postoperative patient care, including daily rounds and wound assessments.

Tecsys commits $5M to new Prisma behavioral health hospital. Tecsys, a Montrel-based provider of supply chain solutions, has committed $5 million over the next five years to support Prisma Health's new behavioral health hospital being built near Easley. The new $138 million facility is the centerpiece of a 46-acre campus at 4906 Old Easley Bridge Road near the intersection with S.C. Highway 153 in Easley. The three-story, 112-bed facility is expected to open in March 2027 and will nearly double Prisma Health's inpatient behavioral health capacity. The new hospital will also quadruple the number of beds available for children and adolescents and significantly reduce the need for patients and their families to travel for treatment. It will replace Prisma's 65-bed Marshall I. Pickens Hospital, which was built in 1969. "Tecsys' support is helping bring to life a transformational project that will change behavioral health care in the Upstate for decades to come," said Mark O'Halla, president and CEO of Prisma Health, in a statement about the funding. "With the support of the State of South Carolina, our community and partners like Tecsys, we can reduce that burden and help more people get the care they need closer to home." According to Prisma, the need for more inpatient capacity is acute. In 2025, more than 3,000 behavioral health patients were transported across the state because there were not enough licensed psychiatric beds in the Upstate. As a technology partner to Prisma Health, Tecsys teams have been working behind the scenes to help establish the resilient, secure supply chain infrastructure that will support the new hospital. Through this work, Tecsys President and CEO Peter Brereton saw an opportunity to contribute to the hospital's mission beyond its technology partnership. "Our work with health systems gives us a close view of the critical role they play in the lives of patients, families and communities," Brereton said. "When we understood the need Prisma Health is addressing with this hospital, particularly for children and adolescents who may have to travel hours from home to receive care, we wanted to do more." According to Tecsys co-founder and board chairman David Brereton, the gift is part of the company's longstanding commitment supporting children and families in the communities where it operates through corporate giving, employee-led fundraising and donation matching.

Lundy, MD, MBA, president of its Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Institute, one of the largest orthopedic and sports medicine programs in the Southeast and the ninth largest in the United States. Prisma Health officials said this acquisition will expand access to high-quality, convenient care in communities across the state. This acquisition also includes approximately 500 team members, which Prisma Health says it intends to keep. The transition will not interrupt current patients, officials said. Patients will continue to have access to walk-in and virtual care services, and will also now have access to Prisma's network of primary, specialty, and hospital-based care if needed. "Access to timely, high-quality care is essential to the health of our communities," said Dr. Jonathan Gleason, executive vice president and chief clinical officer for Prisma Health. "Adding these clinics to our network expands access to Prisma Health's scope of services across South Carolina and strengthens the connection between convenient, same-day care and our broad network of providers, specialists and hospitals." Prisma Health said that while a "vast majority" of centers will remain in their current location, it is possible that some will be relocated to a neighboring center.

Here's where SC is spending $167M of federal money to improve rural health care. September 16, 2026 5:00 AM Gift Article In an effort to improve health care access in South Carolina's rural areas, the South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services awarded $167.3 million worth of grants to health care-related entities. The one-time dollars, which were provided through the federal Rural Health Transformation Program, is aimed at programs that will provide high impact, sustainable healthcare initiatives. The state agency is aiming to use the federal dollars to "remove systemic challenges and build infrastructure and long-term capacity through facility modernization, technology upgrades and workforce development." "Every South Carolinian should have access to quality health care close to home, no matter where they live," said Gov. Henry McMaster. "South Carolina is working to ensure rural communities have the resources they need to provide that care, and this is another important step in strengthening health care across our state." Among the grant recipients, the state gave $4.3 million to the state's department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities to expand its mobile crisis response program across the state. The state is using $44.9 million to modernize health IT systems in the state, which includes spending $6.8 million at the SC Department of Corrections. SC Health and Human Services received 712 applications for the money, and selected recipients using federal Medicare and Medicaid scoring process. "We are proud of the strong interest and innovative ideas brought forth to strengthen rural health," said the state agency's Director Eunice Medina. "This funding will help bring these ideas to life and make a lasting difference in rural communities for years to come." The grant program had four initiatives: * Expand remote patient care and modernize health IT infrastructure. * Expanding chronic disease care * Expanding community care sites and the state's mobile crisis response. * Enhancing facilities and workforce development. "This is about more than improving healthcare infrastructure - it's about reimagining care, removing barriers to care, and ensuring our neighbors have access to high-quality healthcare close to home, while building a stronger and more sustainable future for our community," said John Snow, CEO of Newberry Health. The grants were given to a mixture of large health care providers such as Prisma Health and Self Regional, but also smaller providers such as Joseph H. Neal Health Collaborative and the Edisto Indian Free Clinic. McLeod Health in Dillon received money for a specialized obstetrical surgical robot to improve outcomes for mothers and babies in complicated deliveries. Prisma Health received $7.7 million for a mixture of facility enhancements, remote patient monitoring, a chronic disease care program and expanding community care sites at several locations throughout the state, according to the SC HHS. Lovelace Family Medicine in Prosperity received more than $1 million to modernize its health care IT, enhance its facility and develop its healthcare workforce. "The foundation of healthcare is access to quality, comprehensive and preventive primary medical care," said Dr. Oscar Lovelace, the founder of Lovelace Family Medicine. "If South Carolina hopes to improve health outcomes, we must start by transforming rural healthcare. This grant program will leverage local rural public-private partnerships and build healthier communities."
