Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to frequently stand, walk, reach, lift items weighing 40 pounds or less, bend, kneel, stoop, squat, climb, push, twist, and pull; standing or walking is required for 95% of the workday.
  • Ability to perform repetitive finger, hand, and wrist movements, including lifting, keypad entry, chopping, filling, and sealing packaging.
  • Ability to use both hands to grasp, grip, move, or operate objects and equipment.
  • Ability to understand food preparation regulations, proper food temperatures, appearance, and portion sizes.
  • Ability to learn and operate a point-of-sale system and reconcile monies daily.
  • Effective written and verbal communication, including electronic mail and computer use.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of student information.
  • Ability to read and comprehend written, graphic, and oral instructions in English.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with school staff, students, parents, Nutrition Services staff, and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to adapt to varied assignments and conditions and work a flexible schedule.
  • Ability to follow district policies and procedures, food regulations, HACCP standards, health department sanitation standards, safety precautions, recipes, portion sizes, and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to travel to multiple schools when requested.
  • Ability to complete required PGI classes and annual USDA Mandatory Professional Standards training hours.
Responsibilities
  • Follow menu and recipe instructions independently.
  • Prepare, serve, and sell meals in compliance with department and school food regulations.
  • Unload and properly store delivered food items.
  • Prepare food by washing, cleaning, peeling, cutting, and chopping fresh fruits, vegetables, and meat items.
  • Set up and clean serving areas for timely student meal service.
  • Wash dishes and sanitize work stations.
  • Use and properly clean kitchen equipment.
  • Take and record required food cooking and serving temperatures.
  • Maintain compliance with HACCP and health department sanitation standards.
  • Develop and promote positive relationships with community members and school clientele.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information.
  • Pursue upcoming regulatory changes and provide sustainable solutions.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
  • May lead training for other kitchen staff members.
