Requirements
  • A high school diploma and at least 5 years of prior front-of-the-house catering experience in high-volume, fine-dining events with off-premises or hotel catering operations are required.
  • Previous supervisory experience and the ability to hold team members accountable are required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Outlook, Excel, Teams, EMS, and Social Tables, is required, along with the ability to learn other software applications as needed.
  • The ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed is required.
  • Knowledge of current food and event management trends is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver exceptional customer service is required.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse constituency are required.

  • The position requires significant standing and walking, as well as continuous walking, standing, and lifting; frequent bending, reaching, squatting, pushing and pulling, and pushing mobile carts and hot boxes; and occasional climbing, sitting, handling, and manual dexterity.
Responsibilities
  • Implement HUDS and University policies related to food quality, sanitation, equipment, facility maintenance, and safety.
  • Foster a positive, collaborative work environment that promotes open communication, fairness, continuous learning, and HUDS and University goals.
  • Maintain professional relationships with union employees and union shop stewards.
  • Ensure compliance with unit-specific sustainability goals and programs.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources and HUDS Management to ensure employment practices comply with the current Collective Bargaining Agreement and University personnel policies.
  • Maintain positive and professional relationships with front-line service staff through regular meetings, two-way communication, timely feedback, collaboration, and consistent visibility in the work unit.
  • Schedule and assign work, ensure staff are properly trained, and provide the tools and equipment needed to perform their job functions effectively.
  • Coach, counsel, and retrain personnel as needed to ensure superior performance.
  • Schedule personnel appropriately based on business needs and events using the Kronos/Telestaff system.
  • Manage Kronos and approve timecards.
  • Clearly communicate and implement performance expectations and work rules through regular coaching, mentoring, and staff meetings.
  • Maintain Kronos timekeeping records; process timecards and absence requests in accordance with HUDS policies and procedures; and use Kronos Dialer to fill open shifts in compliance with Union Local 26 and HUDS policies.
  • Assume duties when staff are unavailable to work.
  • Maintain staff payroll in Kronos and ensure payroll is submitted accurately each Monday.
  • Review event orders to determine staffing levels, distribution, and event execution.
  • Ensure daily catering orders are processed and fulfilled according to catering expectations.
  • Communicate with the sales department.
  • Communicate event timing information to the kitchen to ensure proper food delivery and pickup times while maintaining food, beverage, and meeting specifications.
  • Manage catering events.
  • Supervise catering deliveries and ensure catering standards are met through spot checks and staff training.
  • Support managers in communicating and enforcing performance expectations and work rules through coaching, mentoring, and regular staff meetings.
  • Assist the sales office by entering sales information and creating event diagrams.
  • Step into management roles as required and provide additional support.
  • Cross-train in other areas as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Previous sales experience in an off-site catering environment.
  • Experience managing in a unionized environment.
  • Knowledge of Kronos timekeeping software or a similar system.
