Responsibilities
  • Comply with and support school and division regulations and policies, and model nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
  • Conduct a preseason meeting with the team to discuss expectations.
  • Meet minimum practice requirements before the first match.
  • Provide the Athletic Director with the season training and practice layout and other activities.
  • Supervise, direct, coordinate, and monitor student-athletes.
  • Attend all team practices and games, and report any planned absence to the Athletic Director; repeated absence may result in deductions from the stipend.
  • Take necessary and reasonable precautions, including monitoring environmental conditions, to protect students, employees, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Prepare required forms for school administrators, including eligibility rosters, players’ addresses, and accident reports, and ensure that a properly supplied first aid kit and emergency care cards are available at all times.
  • Model and instill positive sportsmanship qualities in student-athletes during all activities.
  • Interact with student-athletes, teachers, parents, and the community to build enthusiasm.
  • Set a vision for the program and determine its focus to prepare participants to contribute at the next level.
  • Provide or monitor appropriate medical assistance to injured participants in athletic activities when requested by the head coach.
  • Instruct students in safety procedures and the need to report injuries immediately to a coach or athletic trainer.
  • Maintain professional growth and keep materials, supplies, and skills up to date.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of rules, regulations, and effective coaching practices.
  • Monitor athletes’ academic performance and ensure academic assistance and follow-up for athletes who need it.
  • Coordinate a team banquet at the end of the season for head coaches only.
  • Coordinate team transportation arrangements for away games and activities.
  • Follow HCPA procedures for communicating with parents and guardians.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director or building administrators.
  • Support school goals and objectives consistent with HCPA’s vision, mission, and values.
  • Contribute to a positive culture of excellence, teamwork, and collaboration among staff, teachers, students, and families, using social skills to resolve conflicts.
  • Establish and maintain effective, cooperative relationships with students, parents, teachers, and other school staff.
  • Respond appropriately and promptly to parent, student, and staff needs.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding students and the educational setting.
  • Perform duties in a school or classroom environment and, as needed, on field trips, athletic fields, or playgrounds and in varying weather conditions.
  • Work evenings or weekends and travel as required.
