Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- 1-3 years of billing experience in a clinic or physician office.
- Experience with ICD-10, Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) codes, and health insurance provider rules and regulations.
- Knowledge of medical office practices and procedures.
- Strong skills in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Strong customer service skills and the ability to focus on internal and external customers.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to multitask and perform 10-key data entry.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work independently.
Responsibilities
- Verify patient insurance coverage, payer authorization, and claim status.
- Work directly with insurance companies, healthcare providers, and patients to ensure primary, secondary, and tertiary claims are processed and paid accurately and on time.
- Review, adjust, and appeal unpaid and denied claims when needed.
- Handle collections on unpaid accounts by establishing payment arrangements with patients, monitoring payments, and following up when payments lapse.
- Identify and complete payer-specific edits in the billing system.
- Maintain medical billing files.
- Monitor worked accounts on an ongoing basis to maximize collection dollars.
- Ensure billing compliance is maintained.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with rehabilitation agency billing.
- Strong electronic medical record knowledge.
- Experience with TurboPT, Rehab Optima, or therapy-focused billing.
- Highly motivated and able to work as a self-starter.
