Habitat Specialty is a Managing General Agent (MGA) that is wholly owned by Virtus, LLC that specializes in the property management and real estate market. We operate as a Lloyd’s of London Coverholder in the surplus lines market, committed to providing tailored insurance solutions that meet the unique needs of our clientele.
The Accounting Specialist role presents an opportunity to join one of the fastest growing firms in the industry and is a key player on the Habitat Specialty team. This role will keep the engine running on a day-to-day basis and help ensure our clients experience the best possible experience with Virtus. This position requires someone that is detail oriented, organized, and can work in a fast-paced environment with deadlines.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Complex Billing
•Owns and processes complex invoicing (invoices per location opposed to policy, etc.). for various programs.
•Calculates, generates and bills clients directly.
Reconciliations
•Handles routine AMS/Epic vs Invoicing Workbook reconciliations for premium amounts, breaking down invoices by premium type, fee and taxes.
•Processes reconciliation of invoices against various carriers.
•Handles reconciliations for taxes, external fee companies, external broker commissions, and internal producer commissions.
Back-End Payment Allocation
•Manages payment allocations on open invoices.
•Ensures that invoices are closed in timely manner after receipt of payments.
•Ensures that partial payments are allocated properly with familiarity to client base.
Monthly Reporting
•Owns, creates, and evolves monthly reporting process to ensure data accuracy with various internal and external teams.
•Provides direction to Virtus Accounting on how to apply receivables to invoices as needed.
•Works with our Habitat Specialty team to process raw data, generate and track invoices, and update reports as payments come in.
•Actions and communicates Past Due Payment collections.
Other
•Acts a liaison to the Virtus Corporate Accounting team for all things accounting.
•Works independently and navigates regulatory requirements around policies for various programs, relating to accounting.
•Other accounting/finance duties and/or projects as requested by team and leadership.
Education and Experience:
•Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business preferred.
•3-5 + years of related billing or accounting experience preferred. Complex billing experience preferred.
•Experience and background in insurance, preferably carrier or MGA experience. Insurance
•Surplus lines knowledge a plus.
•Demonstrated strong organizational and project management skills required.
•Must have familiarity and good working knowledge of various Microsoft software applications (Excel), Agency Management Systems, and/or the ability to learn new software systems.
•Applied Epic experience a plus.
•Proven ability to adhere to strict deadlines.
•Position requires strong written and oral communication skills, with a commitment to impeccable customer service are required.
