Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent GED is required.
  • Maintain and update computer competencies as required.
  • Have 1 year of customer service experience.
  • Have 1 year of clerical experience, including computer usage.
  • Be able to attend to more than one aspect of a situation simultaneously.
  • Efficiently process verbal information in written or spoken form.
  • Exercise independent thought, planning, and origination of options and solutions.
  • Apply reasoning and problem-solving principles to resolve practical problems involving concrete variables with limited standardization.
  • Frequently sit, stand, walk, bend, turn, and reach.
  • Be able to lift and/or carry up to 25 pounds.
  • Work in a standard office environment.
Responsibilities
  • Identify and discuss patients’ financial responsibilities and payment opportunities before or immediately after services are rendered, and collect specified amounts.
  • Coordinate patient activities with the Financial Care Services Department.
  • Receive, process, and secure cash, checks, and credit cards from patients seeking services.
  • Prepare and issue receipts for payments.
  • Complete all insurance requirements before services are rendered.
  • File and maintain records according to hospital, departmental, and regulatory requirements.
  • Review records for completeness and correct deficiencies.
  • Provide follow-up actions on collection processes.
  • Perform clerical functions necessary to maintain efficient departmental operations and the pre-service collection process.
  • Greet and interview patients and significant others to collect and discuss patient financial obligations according to hospital guidelines.
  • Register patients in the computer system according to admission and registration guidelines and complete additional duties required for the registration process.
  • Participate in directed cross-training functions.
  • Perform additional assigned duties.
  • Assist with the training and orientation of new staff members.
  • Maintain department equipment.
  • Record and report equipment malfunctions, including initiating service work orders.
Desired Qualifications
  • Have 1 year of hospital receptionist experience.
  • Be familiar with medical terminology and third-party reimbursement procedures.
