SEI hires LPL technology veteran to lead its next phase of growth.

SEI hires LPL technology veteran to lead its next phase of growth. October 17, 2026 SEI has recruited Kristie Edling-Day, the former LPL Financial executive who oversaw technology supporting approximately 32,000 financial advisors, as its new chief information officer. The appointment puts a veteran of two of the industry's largest financial services platforms in charge of SEI's technology modernization, product strategy, cybersecurity governance, and artificial intelligence initiatives. Edling-Day will report directly to CEO Ryan Hicke, giving her responsibility for technology decisions that extend well beyond maintaining existing systems. At a company that manages, advises, or administers approximately $2.1 trillion in assets, the challenge is to translate increasingly sophisticated technology into a competitive advantage without compromising the reliability that institutional clients and wealth management firms depend on. The October 15 appointment brings more than 20 years of financial services technology experience to SEI at a time when platform providers face growing pressure to deliver integrated capabilities, improve operational efficiency, and accommodate rapidly evolving client expectations. Edling-Day most recently served as executive vice president and CIO for Advisor Technology and Enterprise Production Operations at LPL Financial. Her responsibilities included overseeing enterprise production operations, improving system reliability, and reducing operational risk across a technology environment supporting tens of thousands of advisors. She also helped define LPL's enterprise AI strategy and led its early implementation, giving her direct experience with the operational challenges of deploying emerging technology across a large financial services organization. Before LPL, Edling-Day spent 17 years at Vanguard, holding senior technology and product leadership positions that included CIO of Intermediary Technology and chief product and information officer for Financial Advisor Services. Her work encompassed major modernization initiatives and technology transformations supporting multitrillion-dollar businesses. That combination of experience is particularly relevant to SEI's ambitions. Vanguard's institutional scale and LPL's advisor-focused technology environment present different operating challenges, but both demand systems capable of supporting large volumes of transactions, complex workflows, and increasingly demanding users. Hicke framed the appointment around the relationship between technology investment and long-term growth. "The future of financial services will be shaped by firms that can connect technology, innovation, and expertise to help clients navigate an increasingly complex environment," he said. He identified responsible AI and data innovation as priorities for Edling-Day, alongside the company's broader technology and product strategy. The distinction matters because SEI's technology ambitions are not confined to artificial intelligence. Its new CIO will oversee a multiyear roadmap covering digital transformation, platform modernization, and cybersecurity governance, with investments expected to satisfy business objectives, client requirements, and regulatory expectations. Those responsibilities reflect the competing pressures facing established wealth technology providers. New capabilities can attract business and improve productivity, but they must coexist with legacy infrastructure, cybersecurity requirements, and the operational demands of financial institutions that cannot tolerate significant disruptions. Edling-Day's mandate also includes strengthening the company's product capabilities and data governance, areas that become more consequential as firms incorporate automation and AI into increasingly interconnected technology environments. SEI has already been expanding its AI leadership and infrastructure. Earlier this year, the company added chief AI strategist responsibilities to Sneha Shah's role and appointed executives focused on AI orchestration and enterprise data. Edling-Day's arrival places those broader ambitions within an executive technology organization responsible for translating strategy into operating capabilities. The appointment also reflects a larger competitive question in wealth management technology: whether established platforms can modernize quickly enough to satisfy firms seeking more flexible integrations and sophisticated capabilities without sacrificing the stability that made those platforms valuable in the first place. SEI's business spans financial technology, investment operations, and asset management, giving it exposure to a broad range of clients with different technology requirements. Its ability to coordinate those capabilities is an important part of its competitive position. Edling-Day acknowledged that balancing act in her statement announcing the appointment, identifying stronger technology platforms, product capabilities, and data governance as priorities for improving both operating speed and resilience. Her experience at LPL and Vanguard suggests SEI is looking for more than a technology executive familiar with the latest applications. It has chosen someone who has managed the operational consequences of technology decisions at substantial scale. For Hicke, the appointment concentrates responsibility for that execution in an executive who reports directly to him. For Edling-Day, the challenge is to turn SEI's existing infrastructure and technology investments into products and capabilities that can support the company's next stage of growth. The ambition is clear. Whether SEI can accelerate innovation while preserving the reliability of its established platforms will be the more consequential measure of her tenure.
