stc pay expands its partner network through collaboration with Diebold Nixdorf to launch self-service machines, enhancing financial inclusion across the Kingdom.

stc pay expands its partner network through collaboration with Diebold Nixdorf to launch self-service machines, enhancing financial inclusion across the Kingdom. Thursday, October 08, 2026 stc pay, one of the Kingdom's leading digital wallets, announced that it signed a strategic partnership with Diebold Nixdorf, a global leader in the automation and digitalization of banking channels and the retail sector, on the sidelines of the 'Future of Financial Technology 2026' Forum, heralding the launch of the wallet's first network of self-service machines, in a qualitative step reflecting its keenness to expand the scope of its digital financial services and make them available to a broader segment of users in the Kingdom in accordance with the highest banking standards. By launching the self-service network from the 'DN Series' line, equipped with the latest 'DN Vynamic' software from Diebold Nixdorf, stc pay contributes to narrowing the gap between cash transactions and digital financial solutions, as these innovative machines allow users, including individuals who rely on cash in their daily transactions, to benefit from stc pay services easily and conveniently, through cash deposits and identity verification via a verification code sent to the mobile number, without the need to own a smartphone or install the application in advance. These machines are scheduled to be deployed gradually in a number of vital, high-traffic locations, alongside community centers across the Kingdom, to provide an integrated package of solutions and services including topping up the digital wallet balance, collecting cash amounts, making local and international transfers, paying bills, recharging prepaid and postpaid lines, as well as managing digital cards. On this occasion, Mr. Miten Zafrak, CEO of stc pay Bahrain, stated: "Our collaboration with Diebold Nixdorf is a strategic step toward expanding our partner network and offering our financial services to a broader segment of society. By launching self-service machines, we give our customers more options and flexibility to access and benefit from our services, which enhances our presence across the Kingdom. This partnership also enables us to provide a secure, reliable, and seamless experience, reflecting our firm commitment to supporting financial inclusion and advancing the smart financial ecosystem." For his part, Habib Hanna, general manager for the Middle East at Diebold Nixdorf, said: "stc pay Bahrain presents a practical model of how fintech companies that adopt a digital approach can expand their reach by linking digital and physical channels. We support this strategy by providing an integrated and scalable platform that contributes to expanding access and delivering a unified experience across various channels. This partnership also represents Diebold Nixdorf's first major collaboration with a telecommunications-sector affiliate in the Middle East." It is worth noting that the deployment of self-service machines and related local technical support will be carried out in cooperation with Almoayyed Group W.L.L., the authorized partner of Diebold Nixdorf in the Kingdom of Bahrain. This expansion is expected to strengthen stc pay's position as a comprehensive, multi-channel payments network, in line with the vision of the Central Bank of Bahrain toward a modern cashless economy based on digital payments.

Lidl rolling out 'fancy pants' new self-checkout machines to all stores.

Lidl rolling out 'fancy pants' new self-checkout machines to all stores. Lidl is rolling out new self-checkout machines to all of its stores, which play back 'VAR-style' footage to customers of them scanning products. The machines will appear in all new stores and gradually retro-fitted into existing ones. In many stores, manned checkouts have been removed to expand the space dedicated to self-checkout machines. The new machines have a built-in overhead camera that captures video of customers scanning their items; vertically mounted large-format screens; and LED lights to alert staff when a customer needs help. Customers must scan a receipt printed by the machine at a gate to exit the self-checkout area. "They are designed to be more customer-friendly, enhancing the shopping experience while boosting efficiency," a Lidl spokesperson told The Grocer. Explore related questions. The machines have been designed in-house by Lidl's parent company Schwarz Group, The Grocer understands. They are the same type being rolled out by Schwarz across its hundreds of its Lidl and Kaufland stores in Germany, where the company is working with multiple technology partners on the project including Itab, 4POS and Diebold Nixdorf. Shoppers described the machines as "very futuristic" and "fancy pants". Although not yet live at the stores The Grocer visited, the overhead camera built into the machines gives Lidl the option to roll out the "non-scan detection" technology it trialled in 2025, and has since been adopted by several major supermarkets. Lidl has had self-checkouts in urban stores for a number of years but only rolled them out widely across its estate in 2024. The new machines are the latest in a slew of new self-checkout options the discounter has been rolling out of late. In November, The Grocer revealed the retailer was preparing to roll out scan and shop handsets in stores, with the filing of a trademark in Europe and the UK for 'Lidl & Go', to apply to digital payment systems including "customer-operated electronic terminals available on-site in retail stores". The option for customers to scan items with their phone as they put them in their shopping basket is rolling out to scores of stores, having been made available to the public at an initial seven stores in May this year. Lidl said the new technology was part of it's increased investment in digital innovation, "aimed at making shopping easier, more convenient and more flexible for customers, while ensuring that traditional payment methods and staffed tills remain available across its stores".
